The Equestrian Teacher/Trainer major is designed for students with the knowledge, athletic skill and dedication to follow a career path in riding & training horses and instructing riders. In addition to the core Equine Studies courses (including business) students are expected to practice their riding skills diligently. Teacher/trainer majors must attain above average proficiency in three of the four English disciplines offered at Lake Erie College (dressage, hunters, jumpers and combined training). Students spend time working with young horses, assisting in riding classes and teaching students in supervised lab sessions to gain the skills, confidence and knowledge necessary to pursue a career as a trainer and teacher. |
This program prepares dedicated, talented individuals to take positions of responsibility as riders, trainers and riding instructors. Students are also prepared to provide top-quality management of an equine facility. Practical application of knowledge and skills provides the student with the opportunity to gain the proficiency necessary to be successful in his or her chosen field.
