Intervention Specialists provide support to children with special needs. They also support general education teachers, provide referrals, help raise awareness regarding strategies for working with students with disabilities, and support the provision of services to children with special needs. |

| The mild to moderate program is designed to provide specialized training in theoretical foundations and in practical technical skills for individuals planning to teach children and adolescents (grades K-12) who have mild disabilities (learning disabilities) to moderate disabilities (developmentally delayed). Students enrolled in this specialization become knowledgeable in assessment/evaluation of disabilities, development of service options, curriculum alternatives and modifications, behavior management, transitioning, collaborating with parents and other professionals, current trends and issues, and research. |

Students who wish to teach in special education will pursue a bachelor of arts degree with a major in Intervention Specialist Mild to Moderate. Those students successfully completing the program will receive a license to teach children in grades K-12. Intervention Specialist teacher candidates must have completed 12 semester hours in the area of teaching of reading/language arts.
