Registration Information
How does Registration work?
During Orientation students will meet with a faculty advisor who will help them pre-register for the Fall Semester. In those cases in which a student has deposited early and already pre-registered for courses, the faculty advisor will be available to make necessary changes or answer other questions. In addition to receiving a campus email account, each student will also be granted access to LEO, the online campus information resource.
Why is it called Pre-Registration?
Lake Erie College considers students pre-registered until August 1, which is the deadline for paying the Fall Semester bill, or having a Time Payment Plan in place. By pre-registering, a student is holding a space in a particular class which then becomes official once all financial obligations have been met. If the appropriate financial arrangements have not been made by August 1, the student will be dropped from all classes. Students may subsequently register again for classes after any billing issues have been settled, but will not be guaranteed space in the same classes in which he or she had previously pre-registered.
How do I know what to take?
During Orientation, students will meet with faculty advisors to finalize an appropriate schedule based upon their overall college preparedness and interests. Each student’s standardized test scores and high school transcripts will be taken into consideration for placement purposes, particularly in the areas of English and Math. Students may be required to take Math and/or English during their freshman year to ensure that he or she will be able to excel in more advanced courses. Additionally, many freshmen elect to register for HU110: First Year Experience, a one credit course focused on providing essential information about the college experience that also encourages the development of the kinds of study skills which are essential for success.
Full-time students must take at least 12 credits per semester, but freshmen normally take between 14-16 credits. Most freshmen focus primarily on General Education courses during their first year, and particularly during the first semester. For those students who have already declared a major, specific General Education courses may be strongly recommended that also satisfy requirements within the major. Students are encouraged to start reviewing the available classes for the upcoming Fall Semester online:
