State University in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action Saturday
afternoon at Classic Park, losing 5-1 and winning in 11 innings 7-6.

Harry Konrad (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and freshman Ben Reed (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal)
in the sixth resulted in a run. Konrad was the only Storm player with multiple
hits with two in three at bats as the designated hitter.
Game
two was the most exciting game of the season so far for Lake Erie. Trailing 3-0
in the bottom of the seventh, the Storm scored three runs to send the game into
extra innings. Beginning the inning with two strikeouts, senior first baseman
Bob White (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) hit a grounder to the third baseman whose
throw to first was wide, allowing White to reach safely and keep the Storm's hopes
alive. A balk moved White to second and a single by freshman Tom Bayer (Mentor,
Ohio/Mentor) put runners on first and third. Junior Bill Sweet (Barberton, Ohio/Coventry)
then hit an RBI single followed by a Jon Springer (Sebring, Ohio/Sebring McKinley)
walk to load the bases. Senior leadoff hitter Brad Crail (Florence, Kentucky/Boone
County) singled to score two and knot the game at three before a fielder's choice
ended the inning.
Frostburg
countered with a run in the eighth, but LEC came back with one of its own in the
bottom half of the inning on a leadoff double by junior Rocky Pfiesterer (Akron,
Ohio/Green) and a sacrifice fly by White.
The
Bobcats plated two more runs in the 11th inning and looked to be sitting pretty
at 6-4 with the bottom of the Storm lineup coming up to bat. Bayer was hit by
a pitch to start the inning and John Shaposka (Concord, Ohio/Cornerstone) walked.Springer
laid down a bunt to sacrifice the runners before Crail singled for two RBIs to
tie the game. Crail advanced to second on the throw home. Senior Steve Walczak

(Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) each doubled in the game, while second baseman Tom Bayer
hit a solo home run in his first collegiate at bat as a pinch hitter.

cost the Storm the game and the opportunity to pull its record to 2-1. Instead,
the Storm are now 1-2 overall with two games remaining in Arizona. Walczak went
2-for-4 and White went 2-for-5 in the losing cause. LEC had seven hits in the
game.
