Homers Hurt Hosts
PAINESVILLE, OH. (April 13, 2007) - Friday the 13th proved unlucky for the Lake Erie College baseball team as home runs hampered the Storm's lead in both games, resulting in 7-6 and 12-5 losses against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opponent Penn State-Behrend.

In game one, Lake Erie went ahead 4-1 after posting two runs in both the second and third innings. The Storm got five of its 10 hits in the stretch, however a six-run Behrend breakout in the top of the fourth, that included a grand slam as well as a solo shot in back-to-back at bats, took away the Storm advantage. Game two was the most exciting game of the season so far for Lake Erie. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Storm scored three runs to send the game into extra innings. Beginning the inning with two strikeouts, senior first baseman Bob White (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) hit a grounder to the third baseman whose throw to first was wide, allowing White to reach safely and keep the Storm's hopes alive. The Bobcats plated two more runs in the 11th inning and looked to be sitting pretty at 6-4 with the bottom of the Storm lineup coming up to bat. Bayer was hit by a pitch to start the inning and John Shaposka (Concord, Ohio/Cornerstone) walked.Springer laid down a bunt to sacrifice the runners before Crail singled for two RBIs to tie the game. String of Bad Luck Stumps LEC
PAINESVILLE, OH. (March 6, 2007) - A string of bad luck cost Lake Erie College two games in Arizona, as the team was defeated 21-6 by Concordia-Chicago and 8-7 by Juniata.

Against Concordia-Chicago, Lake Erie gave up a minimum of two runs in seven of its eight innings in the field while at the plate, the Storm only scored in four of the last five innings. Whereas the score may allude to poor fielding, that was anything but the case for LEC. They made not one error as Concordia-Chicago continuously found the holes for a total of 22 hits.

LEC had 10 hits in the game, two each coming from the bats of second baseman Steve Walczak (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside), right fielder Rocky Pfisterer (Akron, Ohio/Green), first baseman Bob White (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) and designated hitter Ben Reed (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal). Walczak, Pfiester, White and catcher Harry Konrad (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) each doubled in the game, while second baseman Tom Bayer hit a solo home run in his first collegiate at bat as a pinch hitter.

Against Juniata, Lake Erie was winning 7-2 in the bottom of the ninth before two errors cost the Storm the game and the opportunity to pull its record to 2-1. Instead, the Storm are now 1-2 overall with two games remaining in Arizona. Walczak went 2-for-4 and White went 2-for-5 in the losing cause. LEC had seven hits in the game.
