Hall of Fame - 1992

Florence Eggleston McGlashan

Florence Eggleston McGlashan, a native of Rocky River, Ohio, was a member of the Class of 1930 at Lake Erie College. After receiving her biology degree from the College, she received a master's degree in social work from Western Reserve University.

Eggleston McGlashan was an outstanding athlete in track and field. She accumulated the highest number of individual points in three of her four College years. She broke the American Collegiate records in the standing broad jump and triple jump. These extraordinary accomplishments supported her election to the Army-Navy team for four years. In her senior year, she received the College's highest athletic award, the Lake Erie College Blazer.

Other sports at which she excelled included basketball, baseball, and field hockey. Eggleston McGlashan held offices in the Athletic Association, physical education club and was captain of several of the teams on which she participated. Choir and the Tiber yearbook staff also gained her involvement.

Her academic achievements did not suffer from her focus on sports. She was an excellent student and worked her way through school in the administrative offices. In 1935, she married Lewis McGlashan and had three children, Mimi (LEC 1968), Jane and Tom. She remained active in scouting, PTA, church, golf, bowling and skiing until her death in 1972.

The alma mater of Florence Eggleston McGlashan is proud to posthumously induct her into the Lake Erie College Athletic Hall of Fame on this April 22, 1992.
