Jim Buchan took the reigns of the 14-year old Lake Erie College men’s soccer program in Feb. 2008, also becoming the Storm head women’s coach. Buchan, who is a native of Scotland, joins the Storm after a 12-year stint as head coach of the Mesa State College women's soccer team where he was a two-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Coach of the Year, as well as a two-time Division II Great Plains Coach of the Year, leading the Mavericks to two conference titles (1997, 1998), one regular season conference championship (2000) and three NCAA Division II regional tournaments (1997, 1998, 2000).
Buchan has an extensive soccer resume as both a coach and a player. On the coaching side, he served as a head coach with Calgary in the Alberta Soccer Association (1989-90), the Ontario Soccer Association (1991-92), with the Chinooks Association for Women’s Premier (1993-94) and with the USA University Team Gold Cup Tournament (2002-03). At the collegiate level, he was an assistant coach for the men’s programs at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada (1992-94) and Pacific Lutheran University in Washington (1994-95). He also held assistant positions with the Chinooks Association for Men’s Premier (1993-94) and the men’s provincial team in Alberta (1994-95).
As a player, Buchan has played professionally since 1978 as a goalkeeper with clubs including the Aberdeen Soccer Club in the Scotland Premier League, the Blackpool Soccer Club in England 3rd Division, the Calgary Kickers in Alberta and Kitchener Spirit in Ontario. He was voted Athlete of the Year at Mount Royal College (1991-92) and earned most valuable player honors in the Canadian Soccer League (1991-92), the Canadian Soccer National Championships (1990-91), the Canadian Soccer College Association (1990-91) and the Alberta College Conference Association (1989-90). He also earned Player of the Year honors in the Scottish League (1986-88) and was an all-star selection multiple seasons.
Buchan earned a diploma in sports administration from Mount Royal College before earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education with teaching certification from St. Francis Xavier. He earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Pacific Lutheran.
He holds various licenses, including an Intermediate UEFA ‘A’, USSF ‘A‘ and NSCAA Premier, in addition to a Dutch Youth Certificate. He is also a member of the Region IV Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) staff.

Dale Sheptak resigned as the Lake ErieCollege men's soccer head coach at the conclusion of the 2007 season in order to pursue his academic career with the College after five years at the helm of the program. He returns for the 2008 season as an associate head coach working with first year leader Jim Buchan.
While the Storm head coach, Sheptak led the team to four consecutive AMCC post-season appearances in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. His teams earned a program best 10 wins in 2005 and 2006. His players earned 20 all-conference honors and 12 conference player of the week awards during his five seasons as a head coach. He also had several players recognized on the D3Kicks Mid-Atlantic Region team and one of his players earned the College's first-ever NSCAA/Adidas Mid-Atlantic All-Region honor in 2006.
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Sheptak spent many of his formative years in Leicester, England where he played in the LeicesterCity football club youth development program and was a member of both the LeicesterCity schoolboys and HinckleyTown football club before moving to the United States. Sheptak spent two seasons at JohnCarrollUniversity and was part of the first Blue Streak soccer team to win an Ohio Athletic Conference championship in 1991 before returning to England to complete his bachelor's of science degree in training and development at LeicesterUniversity, where he also earned his master's of science degree in human resource and performance management.
Sheptak's 18 years of coaching experience come from all levels. In addition to serving as an assistant at MuskingumCollege, he has been very active in club soccer and youth development in the Northeast Ohio region, serving as a head coach and coaching director for various programs. He currently serves as a state coach in the Olympic Development Program, and as director of coaching for the Cleveland Blues Soccer Club.
The sixth-year collegiate coach also holds national, advanced national and premier diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as well as a B license and National Youth License from the USSF.
Sheptak is a professor of sports management in the School of Management Studies at Lake ErieCollege.

Davie Carmichael is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach with the Lake Erie men’s soccer program.A former professional player and member of the U18 national team in Scotland, Carmichael earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Notre DameCollege where he competed for the nationally-ranked NAIA Falcons for two seasons (2005-06) before earning his degree in 2007.
Prior to Notre Dame, Carmichael was a standout at both NCAA Division I Cleveland State University and Division II Northwood University.He was named to the Horizon League all-conference first team for the Vikings in 2003 and the All-GLIAC and all-region first teams in 2004.
He served as a team captain for the Scotland U18 National Team and played in three international caps, scoring a goal against Northern Ireland.He was also a member of the team that won the O’faice Trophy.He played for the Greenock Morton Football Club in Scotland from 1999-2003 and coached with the Glasgow Rangers Girls Football Club from 2007-08.
