Coaching Staff  GARY VanCAUWENBERGE starts his second season as the head coach for Lake Erie College volleyball team. VanCauwenberge will spend this season rebuilding a young program. Prior to coming to Lake Erie, VanCauwenberge spent two seasons at Amherst College in Massachusetts as an assistant. While at Amherst the Jeffs made a second round appearance in the NCAA Championships and won the New England Small College Athletic Conference title. A 2000 graduate from Ohio Wesleyan, VanCauwenberge earned a health and physical education degree. He played three seasons of volleyball as an outside and middle hitter for the Battling Bishops, serving as captain. VanCauwenberge also played one year as an outfielder for the Ohio Wesleyan baseball team. After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan, VanCauwenberge received a Masters of Exercise and Sports Studies and a National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education Level IV Accreditation from Smith College in 2002. In addition
to his duties as head coach of the volleyball team, VanCauwenberge serves
as the head coach for the Lake Erie softball squad, facilities coordinator,
academic liaison and NCAA compliance coordinator. He is also an instructor
of exercise science. ASSISTANT
COACH Gorris comes to Lake Erie after spending three seasons coaching women's volleyball at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. In addition to his duties at Lake Erie, Gorris also continues to coach at the high level, serving as an assistant for the Saint Edwards High boy's varsity program that went to regional finals in his first season. Beginning this year, Gorris will also serve as the Quaterbacks Coach for the Cleveland Fusion, a member of the National Women's Football Association. Prior to coaching, Gorris spent three years at Ohio State University, playing two seasons on a rugby team that reached the sweet sixteen in NCAA competition and ranked 14th in the country. He transferred to Ohio Wesleyan to finish his academic endeavors and captained the Battling Bishops rugby team while also playing in the club volleyball program. Gorris is
an active member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the
Ohio High School Boys Volleyball Association and the Ohio Valley Region
of USA Volleyball.
