The senior guard finished the season ranked 12th in the conference in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game, and fifth in assists (3.50 apg). In addition to leading the Storm in both those categories, Chiappone recorded a team-best 47 steals. Fighting
a season-long ankle injury, Chiappone averaged 18.8 points per game
over the final six Storm contests and scored a career-high 26 points
in the regular season finale versus Medaille. She also tied a school
record, hitting on seven three-pointers in the Medaille game. Chiappone
Leads Storm in Season-Ending Loss The Storm trailed by four points five minutes into the contest, but second-seeded Greensburg (21-5) went on a 23-3 run over a seven-minute stretch to push its lead out to 34-10. Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King) scored all nine of her points in the first half to lead the Storm at the break. The Bobcats extended their lead to 40 early in the second half, and pushed it to 50 at the 5:22 mark. Five players,
including senior Annie Sral, who totaled a game-high 18 points, reached
double-digits in the win. Fellow senior Torey Auld added 14 points and
12 assists. Freshman Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) pulled down
a game-high 12 rebounds for Lake Erie (3-21). Chiappone
Enters Record Books, Storm Lose Late The Storm did not trail until the 1:07 mark in the second half when freshman Sara Erickson hit a layup to tie the game at 54. Another Erickson layup put the Mavericks ahead for good with just over a minute remaining in the game. Chaippone, who started the game 6-of-6 from the field, including 5-of-5 from behind the arc, missed scored the only Lake Erie (3-20, 3-9) points over the final 3:22. Freshman Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King) added seven points, six rebounds and six assists while senior Chenita Sumlin (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) finished with eight points and nine rebounds in the losing effort. Senior Cheryl Hoch, who eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau with a three-point field goal at the 1:59 mark in the second half, had 12 points for Medaille (13-11, 4-4), which secured its first winning season in school history. Lake Erie
will be off until Wednesday, Feb. 25, when they travel to an undetermined
destination for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoff

Attack Leads Storm to Conference Win Holding a 49-48 lead with 7:27 remaining in the game, the Storm went on a 19-5 run over a six minutes span. During that stretch Lake Erie connected on 11-of-18 free throws after beginning the game 3-of-12 from the line. Lake Erie (3-19, 3-9) trailed at the half but outscored the visiting Lady Panthers 42-32 in the second half to pick up the win. Freshman Amanda Bray added nine points, 10 rebounds, five assists three blocked shots and three steals for the Storm. On Saturday,
Jan. 21, the Storm will host Medaille at 2:00 in non-conference action. Chiappone
and Sumlin Lead Lake Erie in Losing Effort Lake Erie (2-19, 2-9), which suffered its 26th consecutive loss against the Terriers, trailed by as many as 19 points during the game and drew no closer than the final eight point spread after the 8:37 mark in the first half. The Storm outrebounded Hiram (6-17, 2-12), 32-27, but committed 27 turnovers. The Storm
will host Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:00 in their final
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest of the season. The senior guard scored a season-high 24 points and added seven assists and three steals in a 65-60 win against Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, Feb. 14. Lake Erie
travels to Hiram tonight for a 7:00 non-conference game, and then returns
home to host Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:00. The Bradford
contest is the Storm's final AMCC game before tournament action begins
on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Storm
Rallies to Victory, Chiappone Totals Season-High 24 Points Senior Chenita Sumlin (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Lake Erie (2-18, 2-9) trailed 34-23 at halftime, and the host Lions extended their lead to 19, 42-23, at the 17:17 mark in the second half. Trailing by 14 with just over eight minutes remaining, the Storm went on a 16-1 run over the following seven minutes to take their first lead since the early moments of the first half. Lake Erie connected on all eight of its free throws during the final 1:51 to secure its first victory since Dec. 6 and snap a 15-game losing streak. Tara Stock, a junior, and sophomore Laura Price each had 12 points to lead Altoona (4-16, 3-7). Lake Erie
will travel to Hiram on Monday, Feb. 16 for a 7:00 contest.
Storm
Falter Down the Stretch, Chiappone Finishes with 16 Points Lake Erie (1-18, 1-9), which trailed by only two points at halftime, were within two points at the 13:20 mark in the second half, but Behrend (17-5, 9-1) went on a 21-3 run over the following 12:19 to take a commanding lead. Freshman Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes), who left the game with a back injury midway through the second half, added 11 points in the loss. Junior Amber Krumpe and Tenesha Aden, a freshman, led Behrend with 12 points apiece. As a team, Lake Erie shot 38.3 percent from the field, including a 45.5 percent mark from behind mark, compared to a 37.7 percent total field goal percentage for the Lions. The Storm also outrebounded Behrend, 38-28; however, Lake Erie committed 30 turnovers. The Storm
return to action for their final road conference contest on Saturday,
Feb. 14, with a 6:00 game at Altoona. Wright
and Chiappone Reach Double Figures in Storm Loss Lake Erie (1-17, 1-8) trailed by only four points, 25-21, heading into the second half, and they cut the lead to three with 9:23 remaining in the contest. However, Greensburg (18-3, 8-1) went on a 20-2 run over the next eight-plus minutes to earn a school record eighth consecutive victory. Sophomore Jess Phillippi totaled a team-high 17 points in the win while fellow sophomore Tish Hines added nine points, 14 rebounds and six steals. Seniors Elisha Crutcher (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain Southview) and Chenita Sumlin (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) each grabbed 10 rebounds in the losing effort. The Storm
will travel to Penn State-Behrend on Wednesday, Feb. 11 for a 6:00 contest.
They will also be on the road Saturday, Feb. 14, at Penn State-Altoona.
Tip-off is also scheduled for 6:00 for that game. The Redhawks used an 11-1 run to jump out to an early first half lead and went into the locker room carrying a 36-22 advantage. Freshman Kari Whiteman had 12 first half points to lead La Roche (4-15, 2-5) while Wright totaled five for Lake Erie (1-16, 1-7). La Roche maintained its lead throughout the second half, as the Storm could not draw any closer than 12 points. Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King), a freshman, added nine points and six rebounds for Lake Erie while fellow freshman Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Lake Erie
returns home for another tough AMCC test. The Storm will face conference-leading
Pitt-Greensburg at 2:00 in Lincoln Gym. The Bobcats defeated Lake Erie,
80-37, earlier in the season. Chiappone
Hits for Season-Highs as Storm Falls Neither team led by more than three in the opening 18-plus minutes of the first half, but Frostburg's (12-7, 4-3) 7-2 run over the last 4:38 gave the Bobcats a 32-27 halftime lead. Chiappone had nine points in the opening period to lead Lake Erie (1-15, 1-6) while sophomore Melanie Herget had eight points to lead Frostburg. The Storm battled back to open the second half but failed to draw any closer than two, and the Bobcats again used a late run, this time 9-0 over the final 4:34, to halt Lake Erie's attempts to break an 11 game losing streak. Freshman Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King) added 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots in the losing effort while Tracey Little, a junior, finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds to pace Frostburg. Lake Erie
will travel to La Roche for another conference showdown on Wednesday,
Feb. 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00. The Storm's lone victory this
season came against the Redhawks back on Dec. 6. Miller
Registers Double-Double in Storm Loss Lake Erie (1-14, 1-5) shot only 24.3 percent in the opening half while the Lady Lions connected on 63 percent of their shots in the period. The shooting difference led to a 42-22 Altoona (3-11, 2-3) advantage. Freshman Ashley Steiner led the Lady lions with 10 points in the first half while Stevi Culverwell (Cassadaga, N.Y./Cassadaga Valley) had six points to pace the Storm. The Storm rallied in the second half, but could not overcome the 20-point deficit from the opening half. Miller scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the second half to draw Lake Erie within 10 points at the 16:26 mark, but Altoona distanced itself with an 18-4 run over the following eight minutes. Freshman Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King) added 12 points on the game in the losing effort. Lake Erie
will take a week off before hosting Frostburg State on Saturday, Jan.
31 at 2:00 in another AMCC home battle. Frostburg topped the Storm,
72-47, earlier in the year. Sumlin
Registers 19 Points in Storm Loss Lake Erie (1-13, 1-4) trailed by only six points, 30-24, at the break, but the Panthers limited Sumlin to only four points in the second half while the rest of the Storm team only contributed an additional 16 points. Junior Calista Walker also scored 19 points, lead Pitt-Bradford (3-10, 2-2). The Storm
will return home for another AMCC contest, facing Penn State-Altoona
on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2:00. Turnovers,
Poor Shooting Lead to Storm Loss The Storm fell behind, 16-0, over the first 5:24 and posted only 17 points in the opening half. Junior Bianca Wright (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) had a team-high seven points at the break to lead Lake Erie (1-12, 1-3). Meanwhile, Greensburg (11-3, 3-1), which held a 42-17 lead, received eight points from sophomore Tish Hines. The Lady Bobcats opened the second half with an 8-0 run and limited Lake Erie to only 10 points over the entire twenty minutes. The Storm shot 19.2 percent in the second period while turning the ball over 17 times. Lake Erie
will head back on the road for another AMCC contest against rival Pitt-Bradford
on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Tip-off is slated for 6:00. Sumlin
Hits for 10 Points in Lake Erie Loss Lake Erie (1-11, 1-2), which never led in the game, trailed 38-18 at the half after the Lions connected in 57.7 percent of their shots. Tenesha Aden, a freshman, had 10 points at the break for Behrend (10-4, 3-0) while junior Bianca Wright (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain Southview) and sophomore Stevi Culverwell (Cassadaga, N.Y./Cassadaga Valley) each had six for the Storm. Behrend cooled off in the second half, shooting only 38.2 percent from the field, but the Storm could not mount a comeback. Aden led all scorers with 26 points while fellow freshman Brittany Mays totaled 17 in the win. The Storm
continue their AMCC schedule with a road game against Pitt-Greensburg
on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2:00. Sumlin
and Bray Reach Double Digits in Lake Erie Loss The Storm fell behind 15-4 following an 11-0 run by the Hawks, and headed into the locker room trailing 30-13. Sumlin and junior Bianca Wright (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) each had five points in the opening half to lead Lake Erie (1-10). Sophomores Autumn Lee-Jeffries and Kristen Curry totaled eight points each to lead Hilbert (5-7). Lake Erie shot only 23.1 percent from the field for the game while committing 36 turnovers. The Storm
will play at home on Wednesday, Jan.14 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference match-up against Penn State-Behrend. The game is slated to
begin at 6:00 and will be followed by the men's contest at 8:00. Freshman Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King) led the Lake Erie (1-9, 1-1) squad with 12 points while fellow freshman Sarah Miller and senior Chenita Sumlin poured in 10 points each. Frostburg State (9-4, 1-0) jumped out to a 17-2 lead early in the contest en route to a 35-18 halftime lead. Lake Erie shot 41.2 percent from the field compared to a 36.1 percent mark by the Bobcats in the opening period, but 16 turnovers led to 24 Frostburg State points. The trend continued into the second half with Frostburg forcing 13 more turnovers, which led to nine more Bobcat points. Lake Erie
will travel back home for a non-conference game slated for Monday, Jan.
12 against Hilbert at Lincoln Gymnasium. The contest will precede an
8:00 contest between the men's teams. Second
Half Shooting Woes Continue for Storm Women Amanda Bray (Temple Terrance, Fla./Leon King), a freshman, led Lake Erie (1-8) with 10 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. Lake Erie
will look to improve to 2-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference
play when they travel to Frostburg State on Saturday, Jan. 10 for a
2:00 contest, which will be followed by the men's game at 4:00.
Poor
Second Half Shooting Leads to Lake Erie Loss Lake Erie (1-7) only turned the ball over 11 times but was outrebounded, 52-28. Bluffton (1-10) senior Lindsay Bacon poured in a career-high 25 points while sophomore Karin Schaller added a double-double with 10 points and 18 rebounds. Schaller also totaled a school record nine blocked shots. The Storm's
next contest is scheduled for 2:00 at Frostburg State. The Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference contest will precede the men's game at
4:00. The Lake Erie women are currently 1-0 in the conference. Shorthanded
Storm Women Lose at Wooster The Fighting Scots held a 40-13 halftime lead in part to the 26.1 shooting percentage posted by Lake Erie (1-6). A 20-2 run during an eight-minute stretch in the opening half and 17 Storm turnovers added to the large deficit. Wooster continued its surge in the second half, opening with a 19-7 run. Lake Erie
will travel to Bluffton on Saturday, Jan. 3 for a 2:00 match-up with
the Beavers. First
Half Shooting Woes for Lake Erie Women Lead to Defeat Sophomore Stevi Culverwell (Cassadaga, N.Y./Cassadaga Valley) and freshman Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) each added six points in the loss while Bray added a team-high 12 rebounds. Senior Amanda Smolarek led the Hawks with 15 points on a night in which she was honored for eclipsing the 1,000-point career plateau. The Storm
will not suit up again until Tuesday, Dec. 30 when they travel to Wooster
for a 2:30 non-conference match-up. Chiappone
and Miller Shine in Women's Hoops Losing Effort The Storm, who had not played in 10 days, shot a staggering 29.2 percent from the field and were outrebounded 63-30. Lake Erie
(1-4) returns to action tomorrow night, traveling to Hilbert for a 6:00
match-up. The contest precedes an 8:00 game between the men's teams.

Erie Picks Up First Win Lake Erie jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, but the Redhawks battled back, closing to 25-23 at the half. They extended their lead to 15, the largest of the game, with just over a minute remaining in the contest. Bray finished with 12 points while senior Phylicia Chiappone (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Kari Whiteman, another Redhawk freshman, totaled 11 points and six assists in the loss. Lake Erie
returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 17 with a road make-up game against
Albion. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled 4:00. Sumlin
Leads Storm in Losing Effort The Storm battled the Lady Mavericks throughout the first half and trailed by four going to the break. Senior Phylicia Chiappone and freshman Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) each had six points in the opening period to lead Lake Erie (0-3), however, it was Sumlin's (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) second half performance that kept the Storm close. Sumlin totaled 10 second half points en route to her team-high 15-point effort. Meanwhile, Chiappone (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) finished with 11 points and five assists. Lake Erie
will be back on the road, Saturday, Nov. 29, with a 2:00 contest against
Albion. Women's
Hoops Defeated by Apprentice, 74-35 In a sloppy first half, the two teams combined for 25 turnovers and shot a combined 17-of 61 from the field, but Apprentice (2-0) converted on fast break opportunities to take a 28-17 lead at intermission. The Builders then used a 22-6 run to build a commanding lead at the beginning of the second half. Apprentice outrebounded the Storm, 56-40 during the contest while also creating 33 turnovers. Lake Erie
will go back on the road to face Medaille on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7:00 Lake
Erie Women Drop Season Opener Freshman Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes), who finished with a team-high nine points, led Lake Erie with seven points heading into the half with the team trailing 37-16. Junior Rachel Babione led The Berg with a game-high 12 points. Lake
Erie will face Newport News-Apprentice in the tournament on Saturday,
Nov. 22 at 3:15. Apprentice topped Bluffton, 50-47 in the night's first
