Team loses conference playoff berth in another second-half opponent breakout

(Erie, Pa.) - Another second-half opponent run pushed the Lake Erie College women's basketball team out of a playoff position, Saturday, as the women fell to Penn St.-Behrend, 65-50. The team was within close comeback distance throughout the second half, until an 11-5 Lion run in the last three minutes put the Storm down by 15 and sealed its playoff fate.

The game started off neck and neck as the teams traded the lead several time throughout the first six minutes. A 13-3 run by Behrend halfway through the first half shot the Lions into the 11-point lead. The teams battled again for the last five minutes, hitting the locker room with a 35-27 Behrend advantage.

Lake Erie kicked the game into gear early at the start of the second half, hitting several shots that put them within one point. But the 11-5 Lion run handed the Storm the loss.

Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) led the team with 12 points. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) and junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) both had 10 points with Sargent grabbing seven rebounds.

The team ends the season 6-17 overall and 5-13 in the conference, the best record in its history of AMCC play and tied last year's position of ninth place. Sargent led the season stats with 280 points and 220 rebounds and seven double-doubles. Bethel had 274 points, including 46 points from three-point land. Miller had 208 points and 138 rebounds.

Opponent run stops Storm as the team falls in AMCC play

(Bradford, Pa.) - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was stopped in its tracks by a 15-2 run by Pitt-Bradford, Friday night, as the team lost 61-42 to the Panthers. Despite the loss, the team still has hopes for a playoff berth.

The team led early in the first half, picking up two points on free-throw line in the first minute of the game. The women battled through the first period, but the Panthers held a loose lead. A made basket by senior Heather McElwain (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) put the Storm up by one point towards the back end of the second half. From there the teams exchanged the lead for about four minutes until Bradford hit a 9-0 run that put them up 27-19 at the half.

Lake Erie fell deeper in the second half as the Panthers hit several key runs that kept them on top. Bradford busted out with a 15-2 run that put them up by 16 to take the 61-42 victory.

Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) led with 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) picked up eight points and sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had seven points and 12 rebounds.

The women hit the road again, Saturday, traveling to Erie, Pa. to take on Penn St.-Behrend at 6 p.m.

Halftime lead not enough as Lake Erie falls in non-conference match

(Wooster, Ohio) - A three-point halftime lead was not enough for the Lake Erie College women's basketball to grip on to as the team fell 66-54 to the non-conference College of Wooster, Monday night on the road. The team was up 31-28 at the half, trading the lead with the Fighting Scots, but fell by 12.

Wooster started the game with a 9-4 run that put the Storm down by five. Two minutes later, a 14-6 run brought the Storm to within one point. After trading baskets for three minutes, LEC hit a breakout 18-8 run that by them up 31-28 at the half.

The team lost its grip with only two minutes played. Wooster regained a larger lead with a 12-0 run that put Lake Erie down by 15 points. The Storm would be unable to recover and fell 66-54.

Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) led the team with 14 points. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) picked up 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Sophomore Danielle Ruggieri (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) added eight points and seven rebounds.

The team returns to AMCC play Friday, traveling to Pitt-Bradford. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

Storm snaps six-game losing streak with win over Mount Aloysius

(Painesville, Ohio) - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak, Saturday afternoon, with a 77-69 win over Mount Aloysius. Lake Erie led for the majority of the game, though the Mounties carved the deficit on several occassions.

LEC led in the first five minutes of the game until Mount Aloysius tied the game and continued on a 6-0 run. The Storm caught up two minutes later and took over, leading by four. A made three-pointer by junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) started the Storm on a 10-3 run that put them up by eight, settling on a 39-36 halftime score.

Lake Erie led by as many as 11 points in the second half. The Mounties caught up several times through the second period, but LEC stayed in control and picked up the 77-69 win.

Miller picked up her fourth double-doubled, leading the team's scoring with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) got her seventh double double, leading rebounds with 14 and picking up 18 points. Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) added 14 points, and junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) had 12 points.

The team takes break from AMCC action, Monday, as the women travel to Wooster, Ohio to take on the College of Wooster. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Storm falls victim to intense comeback and first overtime of the season

(Painesville, Ohio) - An intense overtime period saw the Lake Erie College women's basketball team lose its grip on Penn St.-Altoona, Friday night as the team fell 76-68. The team was up by 16 points halfway through the first period until a 24-8 run by Altoona tied the contest, sending the teams into overtime. Altoona outscored LEC 18-10 in the extra period and hit the road with the win.

The Storm started the scoring run by knocking down nine points in the first three minutes, giving them the six point advantage. The team maintained the lead throughout the game, leading 30-23 at the half.

The team kept the momentum going in the second half as a 19-8 run put the women up by 16 points. But the Lions carved the deficit with the 24-8 run that tied the game. In its first overtime period of the season, the Storm was managed to get 10 points but fell 76-68 in the final.

Junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) hit her third double double, leading the team with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) also had 18 points and junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) picked up 10 points and had seven assists.

The team's continues AMCC play tomorrow, host Mount Aloysius College, starting at 2 p.m.

La Roche gets revenge as Storm falls

(Painesville, Ohio) - Revenge was the name of the game as the Lake Erie College women's basketball team fell 66-41 to La Roche College, Tuesday night. Lake Erie defeated the Redhawks, 60-49 earlier in the year.

La Roche never trailed in the game, jumping off to a demanding three-point lead. La Roche's Ti'la Hardman would then hit a jumper that sent the Redhawks on a 5-21 run and put the Storm down by 18 and sent them into the locker with a 33-15 deficit at halftime. The second half saw the Storm down by as many as 33 points before a 15-2 run brought the team back and settled on the 66-41 loss.

Junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) had a team-high 12 points, while junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) had 10 points. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) led with 11 rebounds and tacked on eight points.

The team continues at home with AMCC play against Penn St.-Altoona, Friday at 6 p.m.

Storms stays close, falls to Frostburg

(Frostburg, Md.) - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team stayed in step with the Frostburg State University Bobcats, Saturday, keeping a tight game, but falling 64-53 on the road. Junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Homes) picked up her second double-double, leading the team with 15 points.

The women trailed throughout the game as Frostburg started strong and kept up the momentum, shutting out the Storm 8-0 in the first four minutes of the game. Lake Erie trailed by as many as 14 points until Miller hit a three-pointer that fueled 9-3 Storm run and put the team within scoring digits. However, the Storm would be unable to catch up and fell 64-53.

Miller picked up 15 points and 11 rebounds for the team, while freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) had 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.

The team returns home to continue AMCC action, Tuesday, hosting La Roche College at 5 p.m.

Storm knocked down by Bobcats in second game

BOX SCORE
(Greensburg, Pa.) - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team fell for a second time against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team Pitt-Greensburg in a difficult 71-44 loss Friday night.

The Storm hit a 7-0 run early in the game, but Greensburg answered back with its own 17-2 run to take over and dominate the first half of play, leading with a 39-24 halftime score.

LEC saw its deficit increase early in the second half when two 10-point runs by the Bobcats put the Storm down by 25 points. The team brought it back late in the game, but a 10-2 run by the Bobcats solidified the final 71-44 loss.

Freshman Kelsey Lackey (Guysville, Ohio/Federal Hocking) led the team scoring with 10 points. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had eight points and pulled down nine rebounds and junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) hit seven points.

The team stays on the road tomorrow taking on Frostburg State at 2 p.m.

Tug-of-war battle ends in heartbreaking four-point loss

(Painesville, Ohio) - A tug-of-war battle ended in a heartbreaking four-point loss for the Lake Erie College women's basketball team, Saturday, dropping to Medaille College 74-70. The Storm was ahead through much of the first half, but battled back and forth with the Mavericks in the second. The score was tied at 70 in the last 15 seconds of the game, but a basket and two consecutive free throws by Medaille's Amanda Baker handed the Storm the heartbreaking loss.

Lake Erie started strong when a good 3-point shot by freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) gave the team the advantage. The Storm held on to the lead until the last the last minute of the first half when a basket by Medaille's Lauren Smith put the Mavericks up by one at the half.

Medaille kept the lead until the 10-minute-mark when junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) hit a jumper that started a 7-2 Storm run. The teams battled back and forth, but Baker's shot was more than the Storm could handle.

Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) led with 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Woods had 15 points, Bethel racked 13 and junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) had 12 points.

The team hits the road next weekend, traveling to Pitt-Greensburg, Friday at 6 p.m.


Lake Erie hot on Hawks' heels, falls by six in final

(Painesville, Ohio) - Five Storm basketball players scored in double digits as the Lake Erie College women's basketball team fell, 72-66, to Hilbert College, Friday night. The team stayed hot on the Hawks' heels through much of the game, before falling by six in the final.

Hilbert started on a 13-4 run early in the first half that put them up on the board and never trailed as the Storm came within one point on several occassions.

Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) got her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) also picked up a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) led the team with 15 points and junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) and sophomore Stephanie Sample (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) both had 10 points.

The women continue at home, tomorrow at 2 p.m., hosting Medaille College.

Women dominate win over La Roche as Sargent picks up new career high

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team never trailed in the 60-49 win over La Roche College, Tuesday night as sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) picked up her fifth double-double and a new career high with 24 points.

The Storm started strong, jumping ahead by nine points in the first five minutes of the game. They kept the momentum going, getting up by as many as 15 points and led 31-19 at halftime. An 8-0 run early in the second half put LEC up by 17 points, providing a cushion for a four-minute scoring drought and the 60-49 victory.

Sargent hit 24 points, exceeding her previous record of 23 points scored last year against Pitt-Bradford. She also got her fifth double-double, pulling down 17 rebounds. Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) had 10 points and seven rebounds while Junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) and sophomore Stephanie Sample (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) both had seven points.

The team returns home this weekend to take on Hilbert College at 7 p.m., Friday night.

Second half comeback fuels two-point Storm win

(Painesville, Ohio) - A furious second half comeback fueled a tight two-point win for the Lake Erie College women's basketball team as the Storm beat the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, 53-51, Saturday afternoon at home.

The women began the comeback in the beginning of the second half, bouncing back from a 10-point deficit and outscoring the Panthers 14-4 in six minutes of play.

Lake Erie started the game with a back and forth battle until Bradford hit an 8-2 run that put them up 26-19 at the half. A good three-pointer by freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) started the comeback that pulled the Storm out of the hole and into the lead with the 53-51 victory.

Bethel had 20 points, including 12 points from three-point land, and picked up six rebounds. Junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) had 12 points and five rebounds and junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) had 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) pulled down 13 rebounds and had six points.

The team travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., Tuesday in a doubleheader with the men against La Roche College, starting at 5:30 p.m.

LEC loses grip despite halftime lead, halts winning streak

(Painesville, Ohio) - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team lost control of the second half, despite leading a halftime, and fell 54-44 to Penn St.-Behrend at home.

The Storm led 22-19 at halftime and through much of the second half, but lost grip at the four-minute mark when the Lions hit a 12-3 streak that put them up by 10 in the final seconds.

The Lions started out leading early in the first half. But a made three-pointer by freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) put the Storm up by two. A made free throw by Bethel would kick it up another notch and give LEC the 22-19 advantage at the break.

Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had a team-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Junior Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) picked up 11 points and also had seven rebounds and junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) had seven points and nine rebounds.

The team stays home tomorrow to take on Pitt-Bradford in a doubleheader with the men. The women's gametime is set for 2 p.m.


Close game ends in two-point win for Storm

(Altoona, Pa.) - A close game ended in the second consecutive AMCC victory for the Lake Erie College women's basketball team, Saturday in Altoona, Pa. as the team beat out the Penn St.-Altoona Lions, 57-55. The battle included six lead changes and 10 ties.

Lake Erie jumped out to an early lead and led by as many as seven points early in the half. But the Lions chipped away at the deficit and brought the game to a two-point battle for 10 minutes. A 27-27 tie at the 1:00 mark would charge the Storm, as sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) put a basket to give LEC the 27-27 advantage at the break.

The two-point battle continued through the second half, until a good three-pointer by Altoona's Erin McGowan put the Lions within one. A made free-throw shot by sophomore Stephanie Sample (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) with three seconds left would seal the deal for Lake Erie, who picked up the 57-55 win.

Sargent led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds. Sample picked up 12 points and six rebounds and junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) also picked up six rebounds. Sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) and Melissa Woods (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) both picked up seven points.

The team takes a week off and returns to action on the home-court, taking on Penn St-Behrend, Friday, at 5 p.m.

LEC snaps six-game losing streak in first AMCC victory

(Cresson, Pa.) - A six-game losing streak was snapped as the Lake Erie College women's basketball team picked up its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season, wiping out Mount Aloysius College, 82-77 on the road.

The Storm started strong, scoring first on a three-pointer by freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley). The Mounties were hot on LEC's heels until the Storm hit a 13-0 run in six minutes for a 33-22 halftime score.

Lake Erie kept control of the second half, leading by as many as 12 points and picking up the 82-77 win.

Sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) led the team wtih 19 points and had three assists and three rebounds for the team. Bethel picked up 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had 12 points and five rebounds.

The team stays in Pennsylvania for a doubleheader with the men against Penn St.-Altoona, tomorrow. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., and will be broadcasted at 6 p.m. on WELW 1330 AM and www.welw.com.

Sargent gets fourth double-double in loss to Pitt-Greensburg

(Painesville, Ohio) - Freshman Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) picked up her fourth double-double of the season in the Lake Erie College women's basketball team's 74-61 to the University of Pittsburg at Greensburg, Saturday.

Pitt-Greensburg jumped ahead early in the game and took a commanding lead with 15-5 run to give them the 45-26 advantage at the half.

The Storm managed to bridge the gap with a few key shots by sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) and freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley), and outscored the Bobcats 35-29 in the second half. The comeback was not enough to give the women the W as they fell 74-61.

Sargent had an 11-point, 12-rebound double double. Bethel had a game and career-high 23 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore newcomer Stephanie Sample (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) had nine points and nine rebounds while Mathews tacked on seven points and had five assists.

The team travels to Mount Aloysius College in a doubleheader with the men, next Friday, Jan. 13. The game is set for 6 p.m.

The Bobcats jumped ahead early in the game and led by as many as 24 in the first half, going into halftime with a 42-27 advantage.

In the second half, Lake Erie stepped up its game, putting pressure on the Frostburg defense and coming to within one point with a 23-8 run. But the team again lost its grip and fell 77-62.

Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) led the team with her personal best season high of 17 points and had seven rebounds. Sophomore Danielle Ruggieri (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) had 12 points and six rebounds while sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) and junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) both had eight points, with Mathews tacking on six rebounds and Miller pulling nine.

The team continues AMCC play tomorrow night with a game against Pitt-Greensburg, starting at 5 p.m.

Women's hoops fail to get revenge on Terriers

(Painesville, Ohio) - Lake Erie College's women's basketball team was unable to crank out revenge on the Hiram College Terriers, falling 68-53, Tuesday night on their home court.

The teams were neck and neck for the first seven minutes of the game, until Hiram went on a 14-5 run that gave them the 39-22 advantage at the half.

Lake Erie managed to outscore the Terriers in the second half of the game, 31-29, but was handed the 68-53 loss.

Sophomore Danielle Ruggieri (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) led the team with 13 points and had five steals and five rebounds. Sophomore Loni Sargend picked up her second consecutive double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 points, while freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) had 8 points and five rebounds.

The team returns to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play Friday night in a doubleheader with the men against Frostburg State. The women start at 5 p.m. while the men tip at 8 p.m.

 

LEC is handed loss despite first half control

(Hiram, Ohio) - Unable to hold on to an early lead, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team fell to Hiram College, 79-57, Wednesday night in Hiram.

The Storm led for most of the first half, gaining the lead in the first two minutes of the game on a layup by sohomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard). The Terriers took control at the 10-minute mark and led by as many as 22 points in the game.

Sargent picked up a double-double in the game with 14 points and ten rebounds. Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) led the team with 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Storm effort. Freshman Kelsey Lackey (Guysville, Ohio/Federal Hocking) picked up eight points, eight rebounds.

The team will take a holiday break and return to action in the new year, picking up a rematch against Hiram, Tuesday, Jan. 3, at home.

 

Turnovers play big part in Storm loss to Hilbert

(Hamburg, N.Y.) - Twenty-six turnovers played a big role in the Lake Erie College women's basketball team's 67-51 loss to AMCC Hilbert College, Saturday on the road.

The Storm had a rocky first half start as the Hawks' defense proved too much for LEC to handle. Forced turnovers, missed baskets and a 14-2 run by Hilbert put the team at a 35-20 deficit at the half.

Lake Erie tried to battle back but was unable to catch up in the second half and left Hamburg with a 67-51 conference loss.

Freshman Angela Bethal (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) picked up a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, including three baskets from beyond the arc. Sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) contributed 12 points and had five steals and sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had 10 points and seven rebounds.

The team travels to Hiram, Ohio, Wednesday at 7 p.m. to take on non-conference team Hiram College.

LEC falls to undefeated Medaille in conference opener

- A close first half was not enough for the Lake Erie College basketball team as the women fell to undefeated Medaille College in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conferene opener.

The Storm kept up with Medaille early in the first half with several key baskets by sophomore Danielle Ruggieri (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) that held the team within four points of Medaille.

But a 14-4 rally by Medaille put them up by 25 points and the Storm could not battle back, falling 72-57.

Sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) led the team with 17 points seven rebounds and helped out the defense with four steals. Ruggieri had 14 points, totalled six rebounds and also had four steals.

The women continue AMCC play tomorrow in Hamburg, N.Y. against Hilbert College. The doubleheader with the men begins at 2 p.m.

- With four lead changes and more than a 10-point margin, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team pounced on the Chatham College Cougars, 78-67 in the team's home-opener, Tuesday.

The first half saw more than four lead changes as Lake Erie outscored Chatham by 14 points. The Storm dominated the second half, leading by as much 23 points until finally coming up with the 78-67 win.

Junior Sarah Miller (Covington, Ky./Holmes) led the storm with 21 points. Sophomore Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) followed with 15 points and five assists, while sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had 14 points and nine rebounds.

The team travels to Medaille College, Dec. 2 for its AMCC opener. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

LEC rally falls short by four in season opener

(Pepper Pike, Ohio) - A furious second half rally comeback fell short for the Lake Erie College women's basketball team in its season opener at Ursuline College. The team fell 75-71 after trailing by as many as 18 points in the first half. The Storm drew to as close as two points in the final minutes and outshot the Arrows, 35-26 in the second half.

Sophomore Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had a double-double for the Storm with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore newcomer Tiffany Mathews (Cleveland, Ohio/East Technical) was the team's second leading scorer with 15 points and tacked on four assists and seven rebounds. Freshman Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) was the team's leading scorer with 17 points and also had seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman Kelsey Lackey (Guysville, Ohio/Federal Hocking) added another 14 points for the team.

Ursuline's Kayla Kryznowek led the Arrows with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The team's next game is its home opener, Tuesday, at 5 p.m. versus Chatham College. The men will follow against Mount Union at 7 p.m.

 

Booher named women's hoops coach: other staff added

Painesville, Ohio-. (Sept. 7, 2005) - Bob Booher, former coach at Lakeland Community College, is the new head women's basketball coach at Lake Erie College, announced LEC Athletic Director Ken Krsolovic. He replaces Carla Richardson, who resigned in July after two seasons as head coach.
Booher comes to Lake Erie and the NCAA level after spending the last six seasons in the same position at nearby Lakeland. He compiled a record of 129-52 (.712) at LCC, including a mark of 24-6 last year. His 2004-05 squad ranked 4th in the nation in team offense and 7th in team defense.

The 56-year old was named Coach of the Year in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association in both 2003 and 2005. Lakeland's teams were ranked among the Top 20 in the nation five times during his tenure, during which he coached three junior college All-Americans, six all-region performers and 19 all-conference selections. Fourteen of his players went on to compete at four-year institutions.
Booher previously served as the head baseball coach at Lakeland from 1982-92, the head softball coach from 1976-81 and the assistant baseball coach from 1973-75. He also spent time as an assistant girls basketball coach at Willoughby South High.

A native of Painesville and a graduate of nearby Harvey High, Booher graduated from Ohio University in 1971 and earned his masters degree from Kent State in 1980. He will continue his duties as chairman of the Physical Education Department at Lakeland. He resides in Willoughby with his wife Debbie. They are the parents of Kristy (27) and Ross (22).

Also added to the Lake Erie College athletic staff for the up coming year is Interim Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach Bryan Harmon. A product of Mentor, Ohio and Mentor High, Harmon graduated from Tiffin University in May. He earned seven letters in cross country and track at Tiffin, and was the team's most improved cross country runner in 2002.

Four graduate assistants round out the newcomers. Brittney Murphy (Capital University '05) will serve as Sports Information Director, Scott Fremont (Saint Joseph's University '03) as Sports Marketing Director/Assistant Baseball Coach, Micky McManus (University of Rio Grande '05) as Assistant Soccer Coach/Intramural Director) and Alyssa Rickert (Ohio Northern University '05) as Assistant Basketball Coach/Game Operations Director.
