Former Waynesburg University head coach Laura Maness was named as the Lake Erie College head women’s lacrosse coach. She will direct the program which will play its inaugural season during the 2009-10 academic year at the NCAA Division II level.
“I’m excited to develop a women’s program in northeast Ohio, especially since the sport is beginning to explode within the area,” said Maness. “I plan on hitting the recruiting trail hard this summer and throughout the school year in order to bring in quality athletes who are also quality students.”
Maness oversaw the Waynesburg women’s lacrosse team in 2008 as it played its first varsity season at the Division III level. Prior to coaching the Yellow Jackets, she served as a varsity head coach at Morgantown High School from 2004-06 and as a volunteer assistant from 2002-04. During that time, the team won four West Virginia state championships.
A four-year lacrosse competitor at North Penn High School, the Lansdale, Pa. native earned a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition and food service from West Virginia University in 2006. She recently earned a master’s degree in business administration from Waynesburg this past May.
