How did you find out about the internship?
My former high school football coach had done his internship there, so I kept it in the back of my mind.

How long did it take you to secure the internship position?

I called the Geauga Youth Center and set up an interview about a week later. I was hired after the interview and am still employed there today.

Did the Career Services Office help you in acquiring the internship? If so, please explain how.
Yes, Career Services helped me build and edit my résumé.

Describe the responsibilities within your internship.
My internship responsibilities included the following:

  • I provide and over look a safe environment for the Youth Center Juvenile clients to grow as young men and women.
  • I completed daily logs and reports about the behaviors and attitudes of the juvenile clients.
  • Also I gave advice and showed support for the juveniles in order to complete their therapeutic programs.

List three to five highlights from your internship.
1. Gaining respect from the youth.
2. Being someone they could look to and depend on.
3. Learning about the juvenile court system.

What is one aspect of your internship that you would have wanted to change?
I would have liked to be able to go to more court hearings and be more involved with the client’s case management.

Did your internship confirm your anticipated career choice or path?
This internship made me realize that helping people is a great career choice for me. I could definitely see myself working in a similar career field in the future.

Now that you have completed an internship, what advice would you give students about internships?
Make the best of it. You will learn so a lot quickly and it’s a great tool to help you go onto your chosen career.
