Adolescent/Young Adult Program

Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Arts
Lake Erie College has established a collaborative program with Notre Dame College of Ohio for the licensure of students who wish to pursue a teaching career in adolescent/young adult education. Students enrolled at Lake Erie College as candidates for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree who wish to seek credentials to teach adolescents to young adults (ages 12-21 and grades 7-12) must fulfill the general education requirements and cognate area requirements for licensure at Lake Erie College. Students must meet the criteria for formal admission to the Lake Erie College Education program. Meeting such criteria shall be considered the equivalent of qualifying for Notre Dame College’s Department of Education formal admission requirements for methods courses and student teaching purposes. Lake Erie College students who are interested in pursuing adolescent to young adult licensure are encouraged to meet with the education advisor as soon as possible so that they can proceed successfully through the program.

General education courses and courses in the major content area will be completed at Lake Erie College, and as a general rule, Notre Dame College will accept Lake Erie College major courses as Notre Dame College licensure equivalents.
Lake Erie College students are permitted to take the required Notre Dame College courses through the Cross-Registration program. Each semester, full-time students (registered for at least 12 semester credits at Lake Erie) in good academic standing may enroll in one undergraduate course at another college or university in the consortium. There is no additional charge, but cross-registrants are responsible for the transportation costs and any laboratory or special course fees. ED 410 and ED 421 must be registered for and tuition paid directly to Notre Dame College as they are the institution who recommends the student for licensure to the Ohio Department of Education. Supervision of ED 410 and ED 421 may be accomplished by Lake Erie College faculty.
After successfully completing all degree and licensure requirements, the student will be granted his/her degree from Lake Erie College while being sponsored for licensure/certification by Notre Dame College. |
