Education - Teacher Licensure

Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Arts

The College reserves the right to make changes to the teacher licensure programs as recommended by the State of Ohio.
General Requirements for Licensure

Complete details of the requirements for admission to the educational programs can be found in the Teacher Education Handbook. Admission to and retention in the Education program is selective and subject to the following conditions.

Formal application must be made after the successful completion which is defined as 2.5 or better in the following courses:


Early Childhood Candidate
EDE 200 Early Childhood Field Experience I
EDE 302 Foundations of Education
EDE 325 Reading and Language Arts in Early Childhood Middle Childhood Candidate
EDP 200 Middle Childhood Field Experience I
EDP 210 Integrated Methods, Curriculum, Assessment
EDC 220 Phonetic Approaches to Reading
EDC 340 Education Media and Technology

Transfer students with the equivalent of these courses must apply for admission to the program during their first term on campus. The application must include recommendations from the field experience teacher, the education faculty, and general education faculty.

 

The candidate must successfully complete the General Education mathematics, public speaking, Psychology (PS 101) and English requirements with a grade of "C" or better before any courses beyond the first module are attempted.

 

The candidate must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better.

 

Those who elect to enter the program for middle childhood licensure must maintain a 2.5 in both major areas of concentration.

 

All candidates must receive a passing score on the Pre-professional Skills Test (PRAXIS I) in reading, writing, and mathematics.

 

All candidates must demonstrate motivation, interest, and social skills necessary to be a successful teacher.

 

Each candidate will have an interview with the Education Department Faculty.

 

All candidates must receive the recommendation of the Education Department at each stage in the professional education sequence in order to remain in the program. Satisfactory recommendations from the cooperating teacher and college supervisor for the Field Experience I are required.
