Educational Philosophy:
The Lake Erie College music program educates the musician in the spirit and context of the liberal arts. We believe in the emphasis on the study of music as important for the realization of personal potentials. In a nurturing environment, music study ensures a person is truly educated and assists him or her in the possibility of becoming an important, expressive and skillful artist. Lake Erie College also places an emphasis on the philosophical aspects and historical importance of the art of music in society, as well as its interdisciplinary connections with the other arts and humanities.
Facilities:
Lake Erie College has one of the finest concert halls of any college or university. The Paul S. Weaver Memorial Auditorium, located in Morley Music Hall is a beautiful concert hall that is used for many College and community performances. The concert hall stage and practice rooms are readily available to all music students for their musical studies and explorations. Practice rooms utilize Yamaha and Steinway pianos.
Instructional settings:
Because of Lake Erie College’s small size, music students benefit greatly. Regardless of level of proficiency, all instrumental and vocal studies are conducted in a private, one-on-one instructional setting. Furthermore, music courses for the concentration will have enrollments no higher than ten, assuring a personalized and nurturing academic environment.
Admission:
In order to encourage all students in the pursuit of the enrichment that a diverse education provides, students are NOT required to audition for admission into the music program. If a student meets the general requirements of admission to Lake Erie College and has a desire to explore self-expression through the discipline of music or further develop musical skills, the student is admitted into the program. |
