International Business Major

Degree Awarded
Bachelor of Science

The major in International Business is interdisciplinary and involves a concentration of Business Administration courses and demonstrated proficiency in at least one modern foreign language. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the necessary multidisciplinary skills to operate effectively in an international business environment.

Our International Business Program

• Study opportunities in Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Costa Rica, Honduras, Russia, Slovakia, England and Australia
• International and domestic internship opportunities
• Small classes that provide a personalized learning environment
• Strong liberal arts foundation that emphasizes writing, speaking and research skills

Opportunities in International Business

Internships are highly encouraged at Lake Erie College, and an international internship for the International Business major is a great opportunity for students to network and see firsthand the impact of an international education. Many large corporations are becoming increasingly global in their business dealings, and having the experience of working internationally will assist students in finding their niche in the international job market.

International Experiences

Lake Erie College encourages all students to participate in international experiences. Students may wish to spend a semester at one of our “sister” institutions, earning credits towards their degree while learning about other peoples and cultures.

Other international opportunities for students are Study Tours. Study Tours are two-week trips abroad that full-
time students may take during their Junior or Senior year. Most of the cost of the trip is included within the normal tuition.

Academic Requirements

A Bachelors Degree requires at least 128 credit hours. All students graduating from Lake Erie College will complete twenty semester hours of basic requirements including courses in Math, English, Computers, Public Speaking, and Foreign Language. These courses are normally completed during the Freshman year.

Students will also complete twenty-four hours of core liberal arts courses. These courses include the subject areas of critical thinking, aesthetic forms, scientific inquiry, cultures and values, sophisticated texts, and social sciences. Each major has course specific requirements, and any remaining credits will be considered as electives.

Required Courses for the International Business Major:

The International Business major requires 60 semester hours of course work in the areas of international accounting, marketing, economics and management. Students are also encouraged to study an additional foreign language at the beginning level.
