Message from the Dean

Dr. Richard Bonde, Dean of Education.
The month of September brings with it sharp crayons, crisp loose leaf paper, a brand new text book, new shoes and the anticipation of an exciting new year. The season also brings the promise of another year closer to being a professional teacher for all the teacher education candidates at Lake Erie College.
The theme of our opening orientation was "making our mark" on the lives of children. I truly believe to make that mark, we all need to be servants. Teaching is about continually building and renewing relationships. The young people entrusted to our care need to know that we are there to walk with them on the journey of learning. As a student at Lake Erie College you will progress through our Gate Assessment System. You will notice your growth and experience the satisfaction that your profession offers.
We have much to be excited about. The Ohio Board of Regents approved our special education program. This will enable Lake Erie College to help fill the shortage of Intervention Specialists throughout northern Ohio. We also were approved by the Ohio Department of Education to license AYA candidates (grades seven through 12).
We have new people on board. Dr. Carol Ramsay has been at the college for many years and has accepted the position of accreditation and assessment coordinator. Dr. Catherine Krammer is the new coordinator for special education joining us from Ursuline College, Peter Lee is on board as a special assistant to help with department expansion and accreditation and Hope Swank is our new administrative assistant and is ready to assist you in any way she can.
As always, as the numbers of students in education increase, please note that we have a vested interest in the success of each individual in the department. On behalf of the entire education faculty and staff, I wish all of you the best the semester has to offer!
