Teams
IHSA
The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team for Lake Erie College participates with other colleges in Hunt Seat Equitation competitions. Riders draw for horses then compete on the flat and over fences. With nearly forty active members, Lake Erie College has won 3 team championships out of 6 total shows so far in the 2006-2007 academic show season.
IDA
The Intercollegiate Dressage Association team hosts and attends dressage competitions for college students. Each "team" of four riders draws a "team" of four horses to compete. The horses are paraded in the morning before the show starts and the coach decides which team member will ride each horse for their test. Lake Erie has been very competitive in this new realm of shows, including a Team Championship in 2005.
ICTA
ICTA is the ground breaking team for eventing on the intercollegiate level. A this point there is not a national association, but LEC would like to get it incorporated as a compliment to IHSA and IDA. There are weekly practices, combined tests, and participation in recognized and unrecognized horse trials by the students.
Western IHSA
The western intercollegiate team has weekly practices either at the school or at a nearby farm. The team then competes at western horse shows throughout the school year in Horsemanship or Reining classes, depending on their level of riding. We are always welcome to new riders that want to try the western discipline. |
