TURN OUT
Space is available should you wish to turn your horse out. Due to the number of horses stabled at this facility, there are restrictions governing paddock use.
- Turn out is limited to 1 hour.
- Turn out sign up sheet is posted. There are designated paddocks for boarders.
- Grass paddocks are limited to LEC horses only.
- Do not turn your horse out with another horse unless permission is granted by the owner(s) of the other horse(s) concerned. Student owned horses may not be turned out with LEC horses.
- OWNER MUST remain on the property while the horse is turned out.
- Close the gate and hook the electric fence handle (if appropriate) after removal of horses from the paddock. Electric fence must be hooked at all times.
- Immediately report any damage to fencing to the management.
- Please lead only one horse at a time and have proper restraints (i.e. halter and lead shank). Appropriate footwear and gloves are advised for your own safety.
- Absolutely NO turnout in indoor riding arena. Warm up arena may be used for turnout providing no one is riding. No hay is to be fed to horse turned out in warm up arena. Handler MUST remain with horse while turned out in the warmup arena. No exceptions.
- The round pen may be used for turn out with permission from the herd manager. No hay is to be fed in the round pen.
- The fenced stone riding ring is NOT a turn out area.
- EQUESTRIAN CENTER TURN OUT SERVICE
Monthly, weekly and daily turn out service is available on a limited basis and arranged in advance. Emergency arrangements can be made by phone to the facility manager for your horse to be turned out in the event that you cannot get to the barn to exercise him/her. The cost for basic turn out is posted in the Equestrian Center office. If turn out rugs, boots, and/or grooming after turn out are requested, there will be an additional fee. Billing will be monthly and payment will be due directly to the Accounting Office. A turn out request form, available in the office, must be filled out for all occasions.
- EXERCISE POLICY
Lake Erie College Equestrian Center requires that your horse be exercised on a daily basis by one of the following methods: turn out, riding, lunging, driving, hand walking, etc. We understand that emergencies occasionally arise when a day could be missed. Boarders with special problems should contact management.
- LOCKERS
Each boarder will be assigned one (1) locker per horse in the boarder barn. Seniority will have preference inside the tack room. There is a charge for the rental of a 2nd locker, if available. All equipment, including feed and supplements, must be kept inside lockers. Other arrangements will have to be made for any equipment that does not fit into your locker (excluding the top of your locker - fire marshall mandate). Lockers are 2' deep X 2'4" wide X 6' high and are equipped with several pegs, a saddle rack, and a shelf. You are required to provide a combination lock. Be sure the combination is on file in the office. Lockers may not be defaced or changed in any way (i.e. written on, nails, etc.). You must also make every attempt to keep locker areas neat and clean. Due to space restrictions, tack trunks are not permitted at the Equestrian Center. Trunks will be stored in the haylofts.
- REMOVING YOUR HORSE FROM THE EQUESTRIAN CENTER
We request notification if you will be gone for more than 2 days at a time or, if moving permanently, we request a minimum of 2 weeks notice in advance of the date your horse will be leaving. A form must be obtained from the office before the horse can leave the facility. All or part of your deposit will be held if this policy is ignored. Subleasing your stall is not permissible.
- FARRIER
- The farriers used for the school horses are at the farm on a regular day(s) each week. You may choose to use one of our farriers or make arrangements with your own. You are responsible for your own farrier bills, which are paid directly to the farrier. If your horse needs to be held while being shod, you must make arrangements for this if you cannot be there yourself. If we hold the horse, a $10.00 an hour charge will be assessed.
- VETERINARIAN
In the event that your horse should become ill, we will make every attempt to contact you. Failing this, we will summon the vet, as deemed appropriate and necessary for the proper care of your horse. You are responsible for all veterinary bills incurred for your horse; they should be paid directly to the veterinarian. The stable's veterinarian is at the farm regularly. Phone numbers and instructions are posted on the bulletin board for maintenance care procedures. If we hold the horse, a $10.00 an hour charge will be assessed, with a 1-hour minimum charge.
- LESSONS/TRAINING
Lessons/training are available by LEC faculty members only. Please make inquiries at the office. No outside instructors may teach at Lake Erie College Equestrian Center unless specifically contracted to teach (part-time instructors, clinicians). No student may charge a lesson fee for help rendered to other students.
- VISITORS
If you should bring visitors with you to the Equestrian Center, please instruct them not to put their hands in the stalls, open stall doors, or feed the horses treats. In the interest of safety, please keep children with you and supervise them closely. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
- HUNT FIELD
Please check the signs posted on the tack room doors to find out if the hunt field is open or closed each time you intend to use it. We do this to preserve the quality of the field. Longing on the grass portion of the field is prohibited. The sand areas on the hunt field are referred to as "dressage rings". They have their own "open" and "closed" signs. The use of the bank is restricted to lessons only.
