Your Horse's Stall

(full and partial care boarders)
WATER
Most stalls are equipped with an automatic waterer. You are responsible for cleaning your horse's waterer. (We will show you how.) If you wish your horse to have a bucket of water, you must fill it yourself unless the waterer is broken, in which case the facility manager must be notified. During the winter months, we will water your horse in the event of a freeze up. Please provide a water bucket in your stall, affixed with a double end snap, for this purpose.
- FEED
Horses are fed grain in the form of pellets three (3) times daily. Horses will be fed a maximum of 8# of pellets and 6 flakes of hay per day. There will be an additional charge for additional grain or hay. A salt block will be provided. We do not feed different grains, hays or supplements for individual horses as this creates too much confusion at feeding time in this type of facility; however, you are welcome to feed these yourself.
No grain or hay is to be taken from the feed room or hay storage areas as an "extra" treat for your horse. This is considered theft and will be dealt with accordingly.
- FEED TIME
Horses are fed at approximately 6:00 am, 11:30 am, and 4:00 p.m.
- STALL CLEANING
FULL CARE - (Full care stalls are in the east aisle of the boarder barn.) LEC will clean stalls 6 days per week. On Sunday, stalls will not be cleaned. Sawdust bedding will be used. Straw may be requested but due to additional expenses involved, a $40 charge per month will be added to your bill. Owner is responsible for horse’s exercise/turnout and for cleaning buckets and waterer.
PARTIAL CARE - (Partial care stalls are in the west aisle of the boarder barn.) Student must clean his/her horse's stall at least 6 times per week. If you plan on being away for more than 2 days, please make arrangements with a fellow student or the staff to clean your horse's stall. If you would like the atff to clean your stall, please make advance arrangements with management for this service, then fill out the "Boarding Services Request" form. Follow the instructions on this form. Fees for various services will be posted in the Equestrian Center office. If partial care boarders fail to maintain their horse's stall appropriately, s/he will be warned by management. If repeated warnings are issued, partial care privileges will be revoked and the horse will be placed in full care, and the student will be billed accordingly. The stall cleaning equipment is located in both barns. Do not use the hay cart (wood) for manure or sawdust. Please clean equipment and return it to its proper place after use. All manure must be taken to the manure pile. The muck buckets in the wash rack are for hoof pickings, grooming debris, and manure from a horse standing in the aisle, not for stall cleaning. Any mess left from stall cleaning must be cleaned up promptly in the aisle and outside the barn door as you push your wheelbarrow to the manure pile.
- FEED CARDS
There will be a feed card on every horse's stall. These cards must be filled out completely and kept up to date. Please provide management with your emergency numbers and discuss an appropriate feeding program for your horse. For feed changes: Please inform the stable supervisor of any feed changes as well as write the changes on the white board and feed card.
Supplements, grain other than LEC Nutrena, and medications: These are entirely the owner's responsibility. In the event of an emergency, management will add medications to your horse feed for an additional fee. This service is for emergency use only. Please administer routine supplements or medications yourself. LEC faculty or staff will not inject medications of any type to private horses.
- STALL GUARDS
You may have a chain or stall guard across your horse’s stall door to prevent accidental escape during stall cleaning. Your stall door or stall gate is to remain closed at all other times.
- DAMAGE
If your horse damages the stall by kicking, chewing, cribbing, etc. you will be charged for labor and materials necessary to repair it. These charges will be reflected in the refund of your stall deposit as explained in your boarding contract.
- STALL FRONTS
A halter and lead shank should be neatly hung on your horse's stall door. A blanket rack will be provided for a turn out rug or an extra blanket. Please do not hang more than one blanket on your door. The extra weight damages the door rollers. No nails, boxes, notes, blackboard, etc. are allowed on stall fronts.
- COBWEBS
Boarders are asked to cobweb the inside of their stalls monthly. We will take care of the outside.
- WASH RACKS
Wash racks must be cleaned immediately after horse leaves area. If students fail to do this, the wash racks will be closed. Please sweep up all debris and put into muck buckets provided in corner of wash racks. This prevents clogged drains.
- YOU PROVIDE
All boarders must provide their own grain and water buckets, (with double end snaps to facilitate easy removal of water buckets for cleaning in the winter), medications, vitamins, special feed, veterinary supplies and all other equipment pertaining to the maintenance of your horse as well as a combination lock for your tack locker. The combination of this lock must be on file in the Equestrian Center office.
