Mar 26, 2000    Caldecott Award-winning children’s author Jacqueline Briggs Martin held a reception at LEC.

Sep 14, 2000    Twenty-six students who were staying in the Painesville Plaza Hotel while renovations were finished on their residence hall were able to move back to campus.

Oct 7, 2000    Harold Fink Memorial Music Library was dedicated during Alumni Weekend.

Nov 26, 2000  An early morning barn fire caused $20,000 in damages at the Equestrian Center.

Dec 4, 2000    Avery Hall was torn down to make room for new residence hall.

Dec 8, 2000    Men’s basketball coach Jim Dolan coached his first game as head coach of the Storm.

Dec 12, 2000  A & B Barn is torn down after a fire on Thanksgiving weekend.

Jan 3, 2001    Mentor House (now known as the Steele Mansion) burned.

Sep 11, 200    The peace pole was dedicated on campus in remembrance of September 11.

Oct 23, 2002   Tibetan Monks visited LEC for an educational performance.

Jan, 2003       The Commuter Center opened for use.

Apr 24, 2003  The groundbreaking for the new athletic center was announced.

May 3, 2003   Dickinson Hall was dedicated.

May 10, 2003 The city of Painesville celebrated its 200th birthday on the grounds of Lake Erie College.

Sep, 2003       Delta Kappa Psi sorority was founded at LEC.

Aug 20, 2004  LEC opened “Endure” exhibit that replaced the “48 Hours of Making Art.”

Sep, 06 2004  The honors program was started.

Oct 12, 2004     Women’s volleyball played the first varsity event in the new Athletic & Wellness Center.

Oct 16, 2004     The Indian Museum celebrated its 24th year.

Nov 3, 2004      Men’s soccer progressed in the AMCC tournament.

Feb 25, 2005     Men’s basketball team went to the semi-final tournament.

Apr 2, 2005       Mrs. Ohio, Carrie Layne, visited Lake Erie College to talk about eating disorders.

Apr 23, 2005     Lake Erie College Equestrian Center hosted the IDA finals.

May 8, 2005     President Hal Laydon presided over his final Lake Erie College commencement before retiring.

May 9, 2005     Sue Drietzler took over as interim president.

Oct 7, 2005    The Lake Erie College George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center becomes an approved British Horse Society Establishment

Jul 24, 2006   Board of Directors approves exploration of football team for 2007-2008 school year

Jul 5, 2006     Lake Erie introduces four new majors and two areas of concentration: sports management, marketing, management, history and a new pre-professional program (medical, veterinary, dental, pharmaceutical); concentrations: forensic psychology and therapeutic horsemanship

Sep 6, 2006    Lake Erie College was named to the Princeton Review’s list of “Best Midwestern Colleges” for the year 2007.

Nov 20, 2006   Lake Erie College received $1.297 million grant from The Burton D. Morgan Foundation of Hudson and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City, Mo.,to establish a Center for Entrepreneurialism on campus.

Feb 9, 2006     Lake Erie College announces Michael T. Victor as its 11th president of the College

Apr 16, 2007   Lake Erie College continues its expansion of campus athletic teams with the addition of women’s golf and men’s and women’s track and field for the 2007-08 academic year.

Apr 30, 2007   With the restoration of the Carol Lewis Morris ’67 Skinner Organ complete, Lake Erie College names Mark Bell, Ph.D., the official college organist

Feb 3, 2007    The new Lake Erie fight song, “Here Comes the Storm,” is unveiled at halftime of the men’s basketball game. The winners were Lowell and Susan Burch Tulsa, Okla.

May 6, 2007   The Board of Directors renames the Manor House, located on the grounds of the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center as “Victor House” in honor of President Victor’s accomplishments during his first year in office.
