InfoTrac Web
This is Lincoln Library's database of full-text journal articles, searchable by keyword, subject, title, journal, author etc. Call the library for password information.

Find news sites plus links to our full text collection, featuring ProQuest (Wall Street Journal) and NewsBank (over 2,100 full text newspapers from the U.S. and around the world including the New York Times and Cleveland Plain Dealer). 


Directory of Open Access Journals
Over 130,000 articles can be accessed freely via this search engine; they are available by keyword searching, browsing a title, or by subject.

Search the content of over 250 full text journals.

Ejournals

This resource page is full of links to information about electronic journals in the health sciences discipline. They include an explanation of ejournals; directories of ejournals; directories of publishers and vendors; copyright, etc.; many of the journals referenced offer free online access.

eScholarship Repository
An open access repository containing over 16,000 papers. Covers published and pre-published materials.

Free Full Text

Provides direct links to over 7,000 scholarly periodicals which allow some or all of their online content to be viewed by ANYONE with Internet access for free (though some may require free registration).

Google Scholar

This academic version of Google provides indexing to some articles and shows other articles that cite a desired article. Most information IS NOT full text; you should still begin with InfoTrac, PsycInfo, etc. However, it does offer some full text. Additionally, items ARE NOT screened for peer reviewed articles, nor are there any stated guidelines that say how inclusion into this database is determined. It is a useful place to check for citations in addition to the ones you can get on our pay databases at the library.

An easy to use version of the famous 11th edition of this work.

Amazon.com

Click on the Books tab to search by Author, Title, or Subject words. This site offers all bibliographic information for both in print and out of print books and often gives reviews of the work and author information. 

BarnesandNoble.com 
An online bookstore that offers Author, Title and Keyword access. 

Bloomsbury.com Research Centre
A free online database of reference books, including over 17,000 cross referenced entries.

Choice Reviews Online

This database is "the premier source for reviews of academic books, electronic media, and Internet resources of interest to those in higher education."

Google Books

Google Books works like a big library catalog, similar to Amazon.com. This service offers basic information about the book, a few snippets of text from the book showing your search term in context, and maybe even a few full pages from the book. If the book is out of copyright, you'll be able to page through the entire book.

Library of Congress

From the web site, the Library of Congress is "comprised of approximately 115 million items in virtually all formats, languages, and subjects, and its collections are the single most comprehensive accumulation of human expression ever assembled. 

Melvyl 
Melvyl is the catalog of the California Digital Library (including the University of California and the California State Library.) 

National Academy Press
Read over 3,000 books online for free!  NAP publishes over 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and health, capturing the most authoritative views on important issues in science and health policy.

OAIster
Contains over 10 million scholarly documents and images, full text. 

OhioLink
Allows bibliographic access to other Ohio colleges' materials (books only) by Title, Author, Subject and Keyword.

Pew Research Center
Projects, reports, and information in the public interest.

WorldCat

This site will allow you to see books, sound recordings, musical scores, etc. located in libraries across the country, including local libraries. Lake Erie College's holdings ARE NOT included in here, so you will also need to check the library's catalog to see if we have it locally before using Interlibrary Loan.

Internet Public Library 
A good reference source for general subjects.

KWMap

Facts.com

Contains an encyclopedia, World Almanac, Issues and Controversies, Today's Science, Historical Events, Key Events, Maps and more!  Please call the library for off-campus access username and password.

Human Development Report 2006
Search different indicators such as life expectancy, literacy rate, Gross National Product and other statistical indicators or search by country.

Martindale's Reference Desk
Organized by topic, this handy source has items from world maps to traffic cams, calculators, English translation tools and dictionaries. International in scope. 

OFFSTATS
A portal for international statistics.

Recalls.gov
Easy access to US government recalls, including consumer products, food, motor vehicles, etc.

Statistical Abstract of the United States
Contains 30 sections of statistical data, including population, vital statistics, education, elections, energy, transportation, health and nutrition, and much more.

Statistical Resources on the Web
Divided by topic, this resource examines education, housing, economics, labor, science and various other topics.

Uncle Sam's Reference Shelf: City and County Databook

The "official population and housing data from the 2000 Census plus business and other data" for all US counties, cities with a population over 25,000 and places with over 2,500 inhabitants.

US Census Bureau
The best source for statistics about just about anything in the United States. Also see the US Census Bureau's Population publications containing specialized studies on household, family, population, etc.

Find out the results of the five star crash tests back to 1990. You can search by class, year, make or model. The web site also offers information about equipment and recalls.

Compare information such as education, climate, health, housing, etc. for two cities in the U.S.

State and County Quick Facts
Quick, easy access to facts about people, business, and geography for each state in the US  Also includes Census 2000 data. 

VassarStats Web Site for Statistical Computation
This is a "friendly tool for performing statistical computation. Each of the links in white text in the panel on the left will show an annotated list of the statistical procedures available under that rubric.

World Factbook

From the CIA. This site gives general information about every country in the world. It also includes information about colonies and unpopulated regions.

Search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender, or combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search. Please contact the library for password information.

Over 30,000 individuals are listed about people in the areas of history, the arts, social sciences, humanities, business and popular culture.

Internet Movie Database
Provides a search engine to search for individuals involved in the movie and TV business. Includes brief biographies and filmography.

All the Worlds Maps
Provides access to national maps and maps pinpointing major cities for countries ranging from A-Z.

David Rumsey Historical Maps
This collection focuses on 18th and 19th century North and South American cartographic materials and includes atlases, globes, school geographies, maritime charts, etc.   

Geode
Per this USGS web site, the user can "view world maps based on population, transportation, natural resources, political boundaries, and more."

Google Maps
This site allows you to not only zoom, but to drag the map to get closer to your result. You can also choose a satellite image of your map, and driving directions. Useful in conjunction with Google Local.

Historical Maps
Charts the last 400 years of historical development in Illinois and the Northwest Territory.

Library of Congress Online Map Collections 
Includes access to over 500 years of maps, organized into subject areas such as Cities & Towns, General Maps, Cultural Landscapes and Military Battles and Campaigns.

Map History/History of Cartography
Lots of links, images and annotations relating to all non-current maps are available here.

MapMachine
From National Geographic, this site links to conservation, street, topographical, space, historical and country maps, as well as the standard world maps, and trip planners.

MapQuest
Handy driving directions with an emphasis on finding places of interest. Also offers European maps. 

National Atlas of the United States of America
Per the web site, this atlas delivers authoritative views of scientific, societal, and historical information, provides easy-to-use tools to display, manipulate, and query National Atlas data so that customers can produce their own relevant information, and more! 

National Geologic Map Database
Thousands of geological maps are available at this site.

PCL Map Collection

Contains maps from all over the world, as well as historical maps.  Can be saved and edited as graphics files 

TopoZone
This database contains "every USGS 1:100,000, 1:25,000, and 1:24,000 scale map for the entire United States." 

Yahoo: Maps and Driving Directions
Another, more user-friendly option for obtaining US driving directions.

Internet Tools

Adobe Acrobat Reader
An increasingly important web tool that many sites require for accessing their documents.  Just follow the directions at this site to download and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software onto your computer (once installed, it works automatically). 

Real.com
