The Sports Management Major

Bachelor of Arts
The Sports Management major is designed to give students
exposure to many facets of the growing sports management
field. The program builds on the liberal arts foundation
all students experience at Lake Erie College and includes
many business courses and sport-related courses specific
to the major. The program also offers excellent preparation
for admission to graduate school. Students are encouraged
to take advantage of the internship program in order to
obtain actual work experience in the sports management field
prior to graduation.

Opportunities in Sports Management
The sports management industry is rapidly growing. Lake
Erie College's sports management major prepares students
for careers in the sports management field in industries
such as professional, semi-professional, amateur and youth
sports leagues; corporate health and wellness programs;
personal training; sports marketing, advertising and promotion;
community recreation centers; and increased sports opportunities
for all ages.
International Experiences
Lake Erie College encourages all students to participate
in international experiences. Students may wish to spend
a semester at one of our "sister" institutions,
earning credits towards their degree while learning about
other peoples and cultures. Other international opportunities
for students are Study Tours. Study Tours are two-week trips
that full-time students may take their Junior or Senior
year. Most of the cost of the trip is included within tuition.
Academic Requirements
A Bachelors degree requires at least 128 credit hours.
All students graduating from Lake Erie College will complete
20 semester hours of basic requirements including courses
in Math, English, Computers, Public Speaking, and Foreign
Language. These courses are normally completed during the
Freshman year.
Students will also complete 24 hours of core liberal arts
courses. These courses include the subject areas of critical
thinking, aesthetic forms, scientific inquiry, cultures
and values, sophisticated texts, and social sciences. Each
major has course specific requirements, and any remaining
credits will be considered as electives.
Requirements of the Sports Management Major
The Sports Management major requires 64 semester hours
of course work in the five various areas of business administration
(accounting, economics, management, marketing, finance,
business law and information systems) as well as courses
specific to the field of sports management. Students are
also strongly encouraged to complete an internship in sports
management in order to gain insight and experience into
the working environment.
