Lake Erie College Thunder Marching Band - FAQ

What instruments do you need for the band?
We are currently recruiting for all instrumental positions within the band.

Who can join the band?
Anyone can join - you do not have to be a music major to be in the band. The Thunder marching band welcomes students who want to have fun making music while supporting the Lake Erie College football team. Previous experience in band is required.

How good of a player do I need to be?
If you can read music at at least a high school level, and either currently play an instrument or played in band in high school, you are welcome to join!

Do I need to supply my own instrument?
Students will need to make arrangements to bring their instuments with them to campus. If you used to play an instrument that you no longer own (or never personally owned such as tuba, or baritone saxophone), please email the Band Director, and we'll do our best to come up with an instrument for you to use. The College will have a supply of percussion and larger brass instuments on hand.

When are the rehearsals?
There will be a one-week intensive band camp held right before the start of the new academic year and two-to-three scheduled practices per week.

When are the performances?
The purpose of the Lake Erie Thunder is to support the football and provide musical entertainment during half time.

Does it cost anything to be in the Thunder marching band?
No (except for a little of your time, energy, and enthusiasm).

Will there be a color guard, twirlers or a dance squad?

The College is interested in hearing from students interested in being part of these teams.

Are there leadership positions available within the band?

We will be searching for qualified candidates for the positions of drum major, sargeant, squad leader, color guard captain and dance captain. Assistant to the Director and equipment manager positions may also be available and qualify for work study positions.

What do I need to do to sign-up for the Marching Band?

Send an email as soon as possible to stormband@lec.edu with your name, instrument that you play (please let us know if you need to borrow an instrument) and phone number.
