Welcome

Welcome to our first season of band here at LEC and I am looking forward to meet everyone in August. Our goals this fall is to make music, support the team, and have fun. Remember that Lake Erie College will be awarding a $500.00 tuition credit to all participating band members.

We will hold a mini-camp on campus to learn the music and guard routines that we will use during the fall season. Camp will be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 17 & 18, 2009. (Camp will be paid for by the college.)  Band members will be able to move into their dorm rooms on Sunday, August 16th.

Here is some background of the music staff. I just retired from teaching after 30 years as a band director in the Painesville City Schools system.I did my undergraduate work at Mount Union College and received my Master Degree in music education from the University of Akron. I am currently an O.M.E.A. adjudicator for Solo and Ensemble contest and have conducted local community bands.  Currently I am playing with the Lakeland Jazz Orchestra and also am a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. Our Flag/Majorette advisor is Sherri Koncilja. She is currently working for the Painesville and Wickliffe City Schools. Sherri has been working with flag and majorette sections for years and is a true professional. She teaches privately, has directed many fine competitive guard groups, and has judged baton competitions.

During the regular fall season, we will rehearse one afternoon per week and just before home football games. Tentatively, we will plan on rehearsing on Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:15p.m. I want to avoid scheduling conflicts for all band members so if you have a class scheduled at this time, please email me. All rehearsals will be held in the Garfield Annex, which is building #18 on the attached map. At camp, all instrumentalists should have a music lyre and folio.

For all performances, we will have the following uniforms:

Instrumentalist

LEC Band Shirt (provided by the band)
1 pair of long khaki pants (tan Dockers style)
Comfortable shoes

Flags/ Majorettes

LEC Band Shirt (provided by the band)
