Lake Erie College Assistant Professor Chosen for Year of Dragon Project

(Painesville, Ohio) – Lake Erie College Assistant Professor of Integrated Media Steven Gutierrez was recently chosen to be a part of a city-wide group to paint the dragons for the upcoming AsiaTown fundraising events.

Gutierrez was chosen to be a part of the AsiaTown project for his love of stars and his dragon design based on the DRACO (Latin meaning for dragon)  constellation. The sculptures are sponsored by several local businesses and will be installed throughout the SCSDC neighborhood and in other key locations in and around downtown Cleveland.

This year, the St. Clair Superior Development Corporation (SCSDC) of Cleveland will unleash the seventh in its series of annual public art campaigns celebrating the Lunar Chinese Year. The project commemorates the Chinese Year of the Dragon, which began with the new moon in January. SCSDC will install 25 fiberglass dragon sculptures featuring unique designs created by Northeast Ohio artists and organizations.

The public installation, held May 18, will showcase Cleveland's AsiaTown community and the thriving arts community of St. Clair Superior. For project details or installation locations, visit
