Award-Winning Photojournalist Ron Haviv to Speak at Lake Erie College(Painesville, Ohio) – Lake Erie College will host award-winning photojournalist Ron Haviv as he presents his lecture "Not in Our Name” on Wednesday, September 19 at noon in the Coe Conference Room in the Arthur S. Holden Center.
In the lecture, Haviv will provide a historical look back at events occurring around the world during the last 23 years. With this retrospective of his work, Haviv will discuss the role of the photographer, observer and participants in stories ranging from the Bosnian war to the Arab Spring.
Haviv has produced images of worldwide conflict and humanitarian crises that have made headlines since the end of the Cold War. He has published critically acclaimed collections of his photographs with the books Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal, Afghanistan: On the Road to Kabul and Haiti: January 12, 2012.
As co-founder of the photo agency VII, Haviv’s work has appeared in publications including New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, People, Vanity Fair and Time. His work has also been featured in numerous museums and galleries including the Louvre, United Nations and Council on Foreign Relations.
Haviv has been the central character in three films, one of which includes National Geographic Explorer’s Freelance in a World of Risk that explores the hazards inherent in combat photography. In addition, Haviv has spoken about his work on ABC World News, BBC, CNN, CNBC, NPR, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America and The Charlie Rose Show.
