Sicilian Author Francesca Mignosa to Speak on Campus(Painesville, Ohio) – The Lake Erie College Italian Department will
present a lecture by author Francesca Valentina Mignosa on Friday, September 7 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the Coe Conference Room in the Arthur S. Holden Center. Mignosa will discuss her first book "My Sicily: Life in the Cusp of the Mediterranean Sea.”
Francesca Mignosa was born in Sicily, Italy where her imagination and love for writing began. She studied journalism, literature and French at the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France in the 2000s. Living in New York City from 2004-2006, she was a screenwriter, producer and interpreter for HBO, A&E, ESPN, DC-TV, KPI-TV, Discovery Health Channel, RAI International, EUE Screen Gems and First Look Media. She also worked for the Italian American Committee on Education.
After moving to Ohio, Mignosa completed a documentary on "Sicilian Puppets and Imagination: A Journey,” a personal voyage through her island as she investigated the Sicilian Puppet Theatre. In 2006, the documentary was archived in the International Museum of Marionettes in Palermo, Sicily and in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
Mignosa earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, a Bachelor of Arts in French, and Master of Arts in Communications and Development with a concentration in Screenwriting and International Affairs from Ohio University. She also received a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate and Certificate of Fluency in Portuguese from Ohio University. She is fluent in English, Italian, French and Spanish and knowledgeable in Portuguese.
