Kappa Sigma Fraternity To Host Spring Semester International Day of Service on April 5, 2013
Lake Erie College Chapter Organizes Pancake Breakfast
for Cleveland Fisher House Foundation & Education Fund
On April 5, members of the local Kappa Sigma Chapter at Lake Erie College will volunteer their time to host a Pancake Breakfast, as part of the organization's Spring Semester International Day of Service.
Across the U.S. and Canada, thousands of college undergraduate and alumni members of Kappa Sigma will participate in the event, volunteering their time for service projects and philanthropic fundraisers to benefit hundreds of non-profit organizations within their local communities.
Locally, fraternity members have been working for months to gather sponsors to support the event, which will be held at the First Church of Christ in Painesville from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and include a meal of pancakes and breakfast meat, a Chinese Auction, and a 50/50 Raffle.
"Though we're a smaller chapter of Kappa Sigma, it's awesome to be part of a huge international event, such as this Day of Service, where all Kappa Sig's from across North America will be participating in different service projects in their communities," said Francisco Reynoso, President of Lake Erie College's Kappa Sigma chapter. "And as a Navy Veteran myself, it's especially meaningful that our efforts will benefit the Fisher House."
Tyler Stotsky, Philanthropy and Public Relations Chairman of Lake Erie College's Kappa Sigma Chapter added, "We are incredibly excited to host the 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast again this year. We had a fantastic first year and we hope to go above and beyond that this year. The Members are especially proud that their efforts are benefiting wounded veterans' families. We are happy to continue to partner with the First Church of Christ, just across the street from campus, to host our event."
Advance tickets are available now from any Kappa Sigma member, or by contacting them at KappaSigmaLEC.AGC@gmail.com. The advance ticket cost is $7 for adults and $5 for Seniors and LEC Students. On the day of the event, tickets cost $8 for everyone.
The Day of Service was created as part of Kappa Sigma's "A Greater Cause" initiative, the international fraternity's ongoing commitment to promote volunteerism, citizenship and service to the community. Kappa Sigma held the first coordinated international day of service for any collegiate social fraternity in October, 2012 and has continued each semester since.
Since the launch of the "A Greater Cause" initiative in 2001, Kappa Sigma has achieved unprecedented levels of volunteerism and philanthropy among its members. During the 2012-2013 academic year alone, Kappa Sigma contributed more than 600,000 volunteer service hours and donated nearly $1.9 million collectively to those in need-a Fraternity record and the most ever for a collegiate social Greek organization in a single year.
