Softball Recognized in First National Statistical Rankings
The NCAA released the first national statistical rankings for Division III softball the week of April 9-13 and Lake Erie College is among the top 100 teams in the country in five separate categories. Out of 384 teams across the nation, the Storm is second in doubles per game (2.67 pg), 35th in batting average (.346), 75th in slugging percentage (.458), 84th in double plays per game (0.28 pg) and 99th in scoring (5.72 runs per game).
As for individual players, sophomore shortstop Jessica Hedrick (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and sophomore third baseman Brittney Binko (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy) are ranked third in doubles per game averaging 0.61 per contest. Junior catcher Nicole Mann (Cleveland, Ohio/Euclid) is in the 10th spot with 0.53 per game. Binko is the nation's 30th leading hitter with a .484 batting average and is 59th in RBIs with 1.11 batted in per game. Hedrick is also 54th in runs per game, crossing the plate an average of 1.17 times per contest.
The Storm is currently in the top spot for wins in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with a league record of 8-2. Overall, LEC is even at 10-10.
