Lake Erie College presents honorary doctorate degrees to Dennis and Osborne

During its 148th commencement ceremony, Lake Erie College presented Doctor of Humane Letters to local businessmen Dana A. Dennis and Jerome T. Osborne Sr.
Dennis ’76, vice president and corporate controller of Parker Hannifin Corporation, also addressed the graduates in a speech titled, “True Success in Life.” Dennis commended the Class of 2007 for accepting the challenge of higher education as it is the door opener that makes dreams come true.
Dennis closed his remarks noting that the three elements of true success are education, high integrity and balance of family and work. “When you achieve the right balance of these three elements, that’s when you will become successful,” he said.
A recipient of the Lake Erie College Distinguished Alumni Award, he has been a member of the College’s board of directors since 1998. He is vice chair of the board, chair of the fund development committee and a member of the executive, enrollment management and board development committees. Dennis also serves as president of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute and chairman of the board of Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland.
Osborne has served the Lake County community for many years as a visionary leader, accomplished businessman and philanthropist. In 1947, Osborne founded the Osborne Coal and Feed Co., which supplied coal, aggregates and agricultural lime to residents and farmers in the Mentor area. Osborne, Inc has since grown to a conglomerate of 20 corporations serving the residential, industrial and commercial needs of customers throughout northeast Ohio.
Chairman of the board of Lake National Bank and the Phillips Osborne School, he is also a former member of the board of directors at Lake Erie. Additionally, he has been involved with other organizations including the Boy Scouts, Scleroderma Foundation, Ohio Horseman’s Association and Breckenridge Village.
