Lake Erie College seeks artwork and exhibition proposals from high school students and adults
As part of an ongoing commitment to the arts and as part of its Get In/Stand Out campaign, Lake Erie College is seeking artwork and exhibition proposals via the Internet for its upcoming exhibit, “A Sense of Place from Africa to Beyond: A Traveler’s Guide to Family, Order, God and Country.” The exhibit will run September 2 through October 31, 2007. This call is open to two groups of artists; high school juniors and seniors and all artists 17 and over.
Many forms of artwork will be considered including visual art, spoken word, poetry, dance, performance art and others. Pieces should be inspired by Africa or the African Diaspora and address the influences of African peoples or their Diaspora on family, civic or religious life, arts and culture; world view or the influence of the world on African life or on its people of the Diaspora.
Visual artists should send two example of their work in the form of a jpeg attachment (no larger than 5x7 at 150 dpi), along with pertinent descriptions about the work (dimensions, medium and connection to the exhibition theme) and artist.
Video, film and DVD submissions only may be sent to the college's administrative address below. Any submission must be on VHS, Super VHS, Mini DV and DVD format only (American version NTSC ONLY).
Poets are asked to submit as many as four poems. All poems must be 575 words or less (slam size or smaller). Poets may submit attachments of poems via email,
From the proposals, a review panel will decide which actual artwork to request. The first exhibition will be installed in September.
There is a submission fee of $5.00 per two entries except for poetry. For poetry there is a submission fee of $5.00 per four poems The College simply requests that all selected work must be delivered and picked up by the artist. For those artists beyond this area of "easy" delivery, other requirements may be discussed upon selection.
