Lake Erie College’s B.K. Smith Gallery to Present African Art Exhibit
Lake Erie College’s B.K. Smith Gallery will present “A Sense of Place from Africa to Beyond: A Traveler’s Guide to Family, Order, God and Country” from Sept. 9 through Oct. 31, 2007.
The exhibit glimpses the travels of an American family in Africa chronicled by the art and objects collected over 30-plus years. Collected on back roads, apart from the tourist trade, the collection reveals a culture’s foundation of social, civic and spiritual thought and interaction.
Gallery visitors will see a display of artwork inspired by Africa and African Diaspora including masks, figures, toys and functional and ceremonial objects. The exhibit also includes juried art pieces from a call to artists.
The B.K. Smith Gallery is located on the east side of Lake Erie College on Gillett Street near Phillips Osborne School. Gallery hours are 9 a.m-9 p.m. This exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, call Deb Remington at 440.375.7040.
