It is the first time in program history either award was won by the Lake Erie golf program. Johnson’s coach of the year accolade comes in his sixth year with the men's program after the Storm posted the best season in the program’s 16 years of existence. Lake Erie won a total of three outings – which up until this season, had yet to win a match. The team also set a school record with a score of 290, bettering the previous team score record by 14 strokes.
The Storm finished out the season with record finishes at both the AMCC Championship and the ECAC Southern Region Championship. In the AMCC, Lake Erie finished third out of 10 teams and in the ECAC the team was fourth of seven teams. The green and white had two players finish in the top 10 in the AMCC Championship – a never before accomplishment. The team also had the third place finisher in the ECAC Championship – the highest finish ever for a Storm golfer.
Ribelli, who transferred to Lake Erie for his final season of collegiate golf, was the individual medalist in four matches this season. Prior to his first victory, no Lake Erie golfer had ever won a match. He was also named AMCC Player of the Week three times, which is another honor never before received by any Storm golfer.
Additionally, Ribelli was voted AMCC First-Team along with senior teammate Justin Brown (Bainbridge, Ohio/Kenston) marking it the first time in the conference’s 10 years for two players from Lake Erie to be recognized among the top five players. Brown won his first collegiate outing this season while also taking second place in two other matches, as well as third place in two more. He tied for 10th place overall with Ribelli in the AMCC Championship.
