McCarthy named entrepreneur-in-residence
Lake Erie College welcomes Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Regional Award winner, Tim McCarthy, as the newly hired entrepreneur-in-residence.
McCarthy will primarily work with undergraduates serving as a mentor to student developed businesses. An accomplished entrepreneur, philanthropist and speaker, he founded WorkPlace Media and Free Hand Inc. McCarthy earned his bachelor of science degree as well as his master of business administration degree from The Ohio State University.
WorkPlace Media is the largest at-work consumer media company in the United States according to LEK Consulting, a media research company. Recognized as an Inc. 500 company, WorkPlace Media has been the recipient of awards such as Inc. Magazine’s Marketing Masters Award.
Free Hand Inc. is a company that was created from McCarthy’s passion for philanthropy. “We fix broken charities,” McCarthy says of the company. This organization assists other charities with executive resources, funds and management.
Aside from these companies, McCarthy has also opened three Raising Cane’s restaurants near Columbus, Ohio, and has co-developed a 30-unit condominium complex in Saybrook, Ohio.
In 2007, McCarthy received the Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Regional Award for Communication and Diversified Services.
McCarthy now resides in Ashtabula, Ohio, with his wife, Alice. They have three grown children, Tim, Kevin and Caitlin.
