Lake Erie College freshmen win top ICAA honors

BILLINGS, Mont. (January 6, 2009) - The 2008 Independents Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) Awards were recently announced and Lake Erie College had a total of seven players honored, including freshmen Sean Bedevelsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Scott Given (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) who respectively earned the top honors of Offensive Freshman of the Year and Defensive Freshman of the Year.

Storm quarterback Bedevelsky (pictured top right), who shared the top offensive award with wide receiver Jamal Williams of UNC-Pembroke, completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 2,417 yards (219.73 pg) and 22 touchdowns, while accounting for 2,626 yards (238.73 pg) in total offense.

Linebacker Given (pictured bottom right) totaled 49 solo tackles with 32 assists for a total of 81 tackles on the season. He also recorded 10 tackles for a loss and two sacks.

Other Storm players honored included first-team defensive selection line backer Bill Finucan (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River), second-team offensive selections Bedevelsky, freshman wide receiver Brandon James (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and freshman tight end Dane Gardner (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and second-team defensive picks freshmen defensive backs David Dunne (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and Ryan Studer (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside).

Lake Erie competed independently this season as an NCAA Division II provisional member.
