New areas of study introduced
Lake Erie College will expand its course offerings to include three new majors, three minors and three areas of concentration, bringing the total number of majors to 33.
New majors that will be introduced in the fall include criminal justice, finance and political science. Finance, marketing and political science will be added as minors.
To augment the sciences, the already-established biology major will include new areas of concentration in pre-occupational therapy, pre-physical therapy and pre-nursing. These new concentrations will join environmental science and pre-medicine in the list of biology course offerings.
A popular area of study, criminal justice is being elevated from a social science concentration to a major. Criminal justice is an interdisciplinary major comprised of courses in criminal justice, legal studies, psychology and the social sciences. Students will therefore be exposed to a variety of different perspectives on law, justice and human behavior. Many of the faculty are experts in the field including practicing lawyers, forensic psychologists and other clinicians.
The finance major is designed for students seeking a deeper understanding of the financial environment under which businesses operate. Students completing this program should have a better understanding of the financial theory and practice so as to apply the knowledge successfully to solve a wide range of business and personal problems. The program builds on the foundation of the core business administration major with a focus on financial management of corporations and money management.
The finance minor is primarily designed for business, accounting, marketing, sports management, entrepreneur and human resource majors. It is designed for students seeking a deeper understanding of the financial environment under which businesses operate and money management. The marketing minor will cover topics such as marketing research, advertising, public relations, consumer behavior and international marketing. The political science minor will address the levels of government, international relations and politics and constitutional law.
