College hosts Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour for second year
Lake Erie College is proud to host the second annual Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour (EET) to help fuel the entrepreneurial spirit. The tour will be held at the College on Thursday, Sept. 24. and is comprised of a group of young entrepreneurs who travel throughout the U.S. via bus in order to inspire high school and college students to catch the spirit of entrepreneurship.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a special morning presentation for area high schools in the C.K. Rickle Theatre of the Fine Arts Building. Eight local high schools will be in attendance. The event then opens up to the College community at noon. Registration for students begins at 11:30 a.m. and the event will conclude at 3 p.m.
Last year, the College attracted over 150 high school and college students to the EET. The event will feature appearances from many of America’s top young entrepreneurs who have started their own businesses and are making millions all under the age of 30. Some of the panel includes Lake Erie student, Nick Teriaca. Nick is the founder of Sun Plum Market with three locations in the Cleveland area. Other speakers include consultant, Cathy Horton, and Jackie Lowe Stevenson, consultant, coach, therapist and educator, both of whom are Entrepreneurs in Residence in the Center for Entrepreneurship at Lake Erie College. Michael Simmons, co-founder of the tour and award-winning entrepreneur, will be the host/moderator for the event.
The College is pleased to welcome keynote speaker, Will Pearson, president and co-founder of mental_floss, the quirky magazine that teaches you everything you should have learned in school but didn’t. This magazine has received outstanding reviews from the national media, including Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, The Washington Post, and The LA Times and was recently chosen by The Chicago Tribune as one of its “50 Favorite Magazines.” Will and his company over the past eight years, have seen mental_floss grow into a multi-million dollar brand, with 10 bestselling books, a board game, web site with over four million monthly readers and a line of quirky gift products such as Law School in a Box, Med School in a Box and the recently published MBA Degree in a Box. In addition to these accomplishments, Will has also been named to Inc magazine’s “30 Under 30: America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs” and his company has been named to the Inc list of fastest-growing companies in America for the past two years.
Although the tour is mainly focused on entrepreneurship, students of all majors are encouraged to attend. The tour will motivate students in thriving towards an entrepreneurial mindset as well as helping them work towards a successful, enjoyable career. Along with the event, the EET will provide workbooks, online resources and additional encouragement that are needed for young entrepreneurs who wish to succeed. Students will also be able to enter drawings which feature gift certificates to local businesses and other amazing giveaways.
The EET is free and open to all students, faculty/staff and the public. Students who wish to register for the event, may go to www.journeypage.com/events/lake
