Lake Erie College launches new Center for Ethics
Lake Erie College officials announced the establishment of the Center for Ethics which will serve as a public forum and educational resource for students, educators, professionals, public officials and entrepreneurs.
“The Center will allow us to emphasize the importance of ethics to all of our students and to create a valuable resource for the region,” said Michael T. Victor, president of Lake Erie College. The College also established the Center for Entrepreneurship in 2006 which promotes the spirit of entrepreneurship across all academic disciplines. “These centers of excellence enhance the students’ experience and allow us to engage the public in the life of the College. We attempt to engage the minds of students to think in ways that they have not thought before, to learn the languages of other people and to become better, more complete human beings."
The Lake Erie College Center for Ethics was created to promote intellectual appreciation of moral values and critical thinking about ethical practices. The Center will provide a broad range of multidisciplinary ethics education opportunities, major lectures, professional development and support for ethics research and scholarship. A steering committee comprised of College faculty members, administrators and community volunteers is being formed to recommend programs beginning in 2010.
“Through sponsorship and the use of existing donor funds, we plan to conduct a variety of lectures and events that will appeal to students, physicians, attorneys, accountants, psychologists, healthcare executives, scientists, government leaders, entrepreneurs and others. We will offer continuing education credits to various professionals when and where we can as an extra benefit,” said Scott Evans, vice president for institutional advancement.
