Lake Erie College Fine Arts Department presents “Troika Ranch”

The Fine Arts Department of Lake Erie College is pleased to present “Troika Ranch,” a four-day residency in art and technology. The event will take place Thursday, Feb. 18 through Sunday, Feb. 21 in the Fine Arts Building.  The times of the classes are listed below.

• Friday, Feb. 19  6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
• Saturday, Feb. 20 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Sunday, Feb. 21 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The company will offer in-class presentations, master classes and Live I (Interactive), a workshop in art and digital technology. The Live I (Interactive) workshop is Troika Ranch’s primary vehicle for sharing their extensive practical and aesthetic knowledge of technology use in contemporary live arts. The class begins with a hands-on introduction to the media tools used by Troika Ranch, including Isadora ®, a user-friendly software tool that facilitates real-time manipulation of digital media.

Students are led through a series of compositional experiments that address technology- specific performance challenges. In small collaborative teams, the students are asked to address creative problems that will be presented to the group. Troika Ranch’s methodology is one of interaction – between métiers, ideas and skills.

Residency participants will present their work with a performance on Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building. This event is offered free and open to the community.

The workshop is made possible with the support of the College’s Center for Entrepreneurship. For more information, contact Chris DiCello at

About Troika Ranch

Established in 1994, and based in New York City and Berlin, Germany, Troika Ranch produces live performances, interactive installations and digital films, all of which combine traditional aspects of these forms with interactive technologies. During the 1990’s, the company was a pioneer in the field that came to be known as Dance and Technology. More recently, as the use of technology in the arts has expanded, the company’s interests have increasingly broadened. As innovator and visionary, Troika Ranch now produces art that emphasizes interactivity – between viewers and viewed; performer and image; movement and sound; and people and technology. As a result, the company creates works of art that “integrate the most basic expressions of the soul with the most complex creations of the mind.” It is this effort to balance humanity with the technology that gives Troika Ranch its unique edge in the newly created field of Art Interactions.
