Jennifer Sample MPAS, PA-C is an Assistant Professor and faculty member at Lake Erie College in the Physician Assistant Program. She is also serving on the Admissions Committee and works utilizing CASPA to select the most qualified applicants for our program. She is currently practicing clinically as a Physician Assistant in Emergency Medicine.

Professor Sample graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1995 knowing that she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. During high school, she served as President of the Senior Women Organization and volunteered every summer at ACMC in radiology, hematology, and physical therapy and on the post-surgical floor.

She continued her educational pursuits at Lake Erie College and graduated cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Biology in 2003. She completed her senior research project on the affinity of microorganisms for differing soil types. During her time at Lake Erie College she was a part of the Student Commuter Association and served as their representative in the Student Government Association. She also was nominated and selected for the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society and was elected Secretary of the Lake Erie College chapter.

Professor Sample gained acceptance into the post-graduate Physician Assistant Program at Gannon University in Erie, PA in 2004. While attending GU, she presented a research review outlining unique health conditions associated with bariatric surgery and completed a capstone project on educating first responders on the signs and symptoms of common pediatric poisonings. She completed elective rotations in Emergency Medicine at UH Geauga and also Cardiology at Lake Hospital Systems with Dr. Ahmad Banna. She graduated magna cum laude with a Masters degree in Physician Assistant Sciences in 2006.

After graduation, she was employed as a Physician Assistant with Lake County Family Practice performing complete physical exams, seeing acute and chronic medical issues, and helping manage the patients taking warfarin there. While working at the family practice, she was also employed with 4M as a Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department at UH Geauga Medical Center. She gained employment with the Emergency Services Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in 2009 and is still currently employed there. Her duties include seeing a variety of patients of all ages and from all walks of life with acute and chronic medical problems. While employed there, she has been on several process improvement committees, helped implement the new split flow process, and been a preceptor to many PA students. She was part of the Physician Assistant group that was nominated for and won the "Outstanding Physician Assistant Team" award in 2011.

Her primary medical interests include emergency medicine, procedures, lab and diagnostics, and utilizing ultrasound in the ED. She currently holds certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Because she is currently practicing medicine, she is NCCPA certified, holds an OSMB license, a DEA certificate, and a certificate to prescribe.

When she is not working, she can be found spending family time with her husband and four children. Her personal mission is to educate intelligent, thoughtful, and caring physician assistants who will remember that it is a privilege to serve patients through their knowledge and understanding of medicine.
