Residence Director
Updated for Academic Year 2009-10

The Residence Director (RD) is a part-time live-in position that reports directly to the Director of Residence Life.  As a member of the Student Life staff, the RD is responsible for the general welfare of all students, encouraging them to maximize their intellectual growth and personal development.  The RD is expected to positively influence, contribute to, and improve the quality of life of the residential student through programming, enforcing college policies and procedures, and by forming personal relationships with each student in his/her residential community.
 
Residence Director Responsibilities

  • Manage a residential living community ranging from 75 to 120 residents varying from traditional living to apartment living
  • Supervise 2 to 3 paraprofessional Resident Assistant Staff Members
  • Participate in 24 hour On Call responsibilities along with fellow RDs (may including break periods)
  • Administrate weekly RA staff meetings and attend weekly RD meetings
  • Assist with planning and implementing community programs with Resident Assistants: Academic and Social areas as outlined in the RA position description
  • Assist in the training, selection and evaluation of RA staff
  • Facilitate resident check-in and check-out process
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed and make appropriate referrals
  • Intercede regarding policy violations and make appropriate referrals
  • Provide sensitive, responsive and well informed guidance to residents regarding individual and collective concerns
  • Serve as judicial hearing officer and facilitate roommate mediations
  • Be visible and accessible to residents within your community
  • Represent the Office of Student Life at College functions and events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and/or Dean of Students

Career Services & Internships Administrative Coordinator

Career Services & Internships Administrative Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively and assist the Director of Career Services and Internships with marketing career development opportunities for students
  • Maintain 15 hours a week in the Career Services Office
  • Work with residence life staff to develop career related programs for residents
  • Coordinate career workshops and learning opportunities for students
  • Assist with the maintenance of the SYMPLICITY on-line job network system
  • Assist in overall service for students regarding major and career identification
  • Serve as a resource for resume writing and development
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Career Services and Internships and/or Dean of Students

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree (currently enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program preferred)
  • Valid drivers license
  • Valid background check
  • Strong communication, computer and organizational skills; solution oriented
  • Conflict mediation knowledge
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate and actively participate in developmental student programming
  • Ability to work within a residence life team
  • Able to work with a diverse student population
  • Sound administrative and supervisory skills
  • Sense of humor

Housing Operations Coordinator

Housing Operations Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Assist with room selection and new student housing placement/roommate matching
  • Enter and maintain housing data in Jenzabar EX system
  • Maintain residential student housing files and roster information
  • Assist with the coordination of the yearly move-in, move-out process
  • Coordinate break housing
  • Update housing forms and information
  • Manage the residential maintenance database and file maintenance requests
  • Serve as the liaison between Physical Plant and Residence Life staff
  • Maintain weekly office hours within the Student Life Office
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life/Dean of Students

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree (Master’s degree or currently enrolled preferred)
  • Strong communication, computer and organizational skills; solution oriented
  • Conflict mediation knowledge

Programming & Training Coordinator

Programming & Training Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning of bi-yearly training sessions for RA and RD staff members
  • Coordinate outside training opportunities throughout the year for staff
  • Maintain RA programming database to ensure that requirements are met
  • Facilitate the 6 Week Storm Programming Challenge and plan recognition event
  • Track RA bulletin board changes and themes
  • Track RA Inservice requirements and opportunities
  • Coordinate large scale residential programs such as Hall Crawl, Finals Week Late Night Breakfast (Fall/Spring), large scale Spring program initiative
  • Collaborate with the Office of Campus Involvement
  • Streamline facility and budgetary requests for programs and training
  • Assess residential programming interests and needs (resident evaluation process)
  • Coordinate RA weekly reports
  • Maintain weekly office hours within the Student Life Office
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life/Dean of Students

Compensation

  • 10 month position, August 1 through May 31; (summer employment/responsibilities are available in exchange for continued campus housing)
  • On campus apartment plus $8,000 yearly stipend and $500 Storm Dollars per semester, total package: $16,430.00 a year
