Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of assistant director of creative design. This highly organized and collaborative individual will generate graphic design of print and digital materials, combining creativity with technical proficiency and accuracy to support the institution. This individual will be integral to designing any outward-facing collateral material (print and electronic), including projects for enrollment (admission and recruitment initiatives), marketing campaigns, digital landing pages, advancement appeals and the like. Expertise in web design via Wordpress is necessary. This individual will serve as a liaison between internal clients, external vendors and various offices on the campus to coordinate design and print production needs and will oversee the public relations and marketing assistant in that individual’s work. Working proactively to determine solutions is an expectation.


  • Leads the graphic design creation of marketing publications and collateral material for external use by the College using the College’s preexisting graphic standards, with guidance and approval from the director of public relations and marketing.
  • Works closely with the web designer/developer in executing an immediate redesign of the college website.
  • Assists with design needs relating to strategic communication campaigns directed toward prospective students, including web design for landing pages and CRM outreach.
  • Designs the biannual Lake Erie Magazine.
  • Designs print and digital materials for all offices of the institution, executing online media design needs as assigned in support of strategic enrollment initiatives.
  • Manages all print production needs, including acquiring project quotes, placing orders, submitting mailing lists, etc.
  • Designs and orders all specialty items, as needed.
  • Designs compelling, relevant content that results in high response rates.
  • Ensures deadlines are met and a smooth flow of communication is maintained.
  • Works independently to generate solutions to problems, as well as collaboratively in a team environment, depending on the project.
  • Remains current regarding new digital and media innovations and their impact on recruitment and retention.
  • Depending upon the instructional needs of the institution and the qualifications, opportunities for adjunct teaching may exist.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the director of public relations & marketing.


  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in graphic design.
  • Expertise using Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience in project management and staff supervision.
  • Experience designing graphics and templates for Wordpress websites.
  • Experience working with print houses to solicit quotes and place orders for printed materials.
