Alumni Spotlight: Norma Gutierez | School of Education Graduate

“I have always been drawn to working with children and I knew that becoming a teacher would be the perfect career for me. I do not see my career as a job, because every day I go to work I realize how much I love what I do.” Growing up as an English-Language Learner student, Norma wanted to make a difference for struggling students who feel the same way she did. She decided to attend LEC for the small class sizes and caring professors. The professors in the School of Education prepared her for real life experiences, and showed her that teaching is more than academics. Students need caring and understanding educators, and the LEC professors lead by example. With field experience gained throughout her time at LEC, Norma feels more prepared than ever for her career.
