Walk a Mile in my Snowshoes| Event

Join us for the Walk a Mile in My Snowshoes Alumni event on January 18,2023 at 5 p.m. This is the first day in a month-long challenge to walk 30 miles in 30 days in honor of our accomplished alumna Esther Burnell who walked 30miles in snowshoes across the Continental Divide at the turn of the 19th century. Esther and her sister Elizabeth are historic in that they were the first female trail guides for the National Parks system in 1916. They lived and worked at the Rocky Mountains National Park in Colorado. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a presentation in the Social Parlor of College Hall on The Burnell Sisters by Dr. Amanda Curtis, Assoc. Professor of Sports Management, followed by the snowshoe walk through campus. The walk will end around a roaring fire on the green, accompanied by hot beverages and snacks inside Holden Center.

You can walk your first mile and receive a tracking card to keep track of the number of miles you walk in snowshoes over the next 30 days. This event is family friendly and a great way to get exercise outdoors in the chilly new year.
