Brittany Funk, Class of 2016, Early Childhood Education/Intervention Specialist
One might wonder why someone would leave sunny California for the Snowbelt of Northeast Ohio. For Brittany Funk, Lake Erie College was calling her name.
A member of the Class of 2016, Brittany is pursuing a double major in early childhood education and intervention specialist. The option to pursue a dual major at LEC was actually one of the main factors that played into her college decision.
Brittany was also drawn to the opportunity to join the Storm swim team. Though the swimming program has since dissolved, Brittany was a student-athlete on the team for three years. She also serves as the vice president of the College's branch of Mortar Board, a national honor society recognizing seniors for their exemplary scholarship, leadership and service.
Over her years at Lake Erie, Brittany has grown to love the supportive atmosphere that exists across campus. "Lake Erie College is great because it offers a small, tight-knit family," she said. "The professors get to know their students well and are very accommodating. There is always someone to talk to and listen if you need it!"
Brittany's favorite story to tell her friends and family back in California involves the first time she experienced snow. "I ran out of my dorm in such excitement over the little snowflakes that were falling," she said. "One of my friends even filmed it. Little did I know what I was in for during the rest of the winter!"
Following graduation, Brittany hopes to work in special education and also coach swimming. We are confident her Lake Erie education will serve her well.
