A single class would not be able encompass the entire scope of career development. It is a steady process that takes place by utilizing all four years. As a student’s identity develops during their tenure at Lake Erie College, they often discover different interests and career avenues, which requires support through, one-on-one career coaching, development of transferable skills, proper etiquette, interviewing and advanced degree exploration.

Sarah K. Kostiha Smith, M.Ed., MBA
Director of Career Services and Internships

Sarah Kostiha Smith serves as the director of the Career Services and Internships Department. Utilizing a background in college student personnel and business administration, Sarah sets out to ensure an undergraduate experience in which students gain not only an academic education, but also a career education by utilizing all four years to learn about themselves and their options in the world of work in a comprehensive way. Career Services strive to develop relationships with employers while providing support in their recruiting needs through exceptional customer service. Sarah works one-on-one in advising students, as well as presenting and facilitating workshops and classroom presentations. Sarah brings experience in student recruitment and admissions, student life and student health education to her work for Lake Erie College. She has worked for large institutions like Ohio University, but enjoys working for a small college like Lake Erie that values personal experience. It is her goal that the Career Services inspire, challenge and prepare all students to find careers that reflect their values and lead to lives of meaning and connection.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science in organizational communication from the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University, a Master of Education in college student personnel from Ohio University and a MBA from Lake Erie College.
