COVID-19 Update | August 2021

The following is a message from Lake Erie College President, Dr. Brian Posler in regards to COVID-19 and the updated ReEnvision Plan:

As we approach the Fall 2021 semester, campus is beginning to gain some normalcy. Classrooms are being configured with three feet of distance, furniture is back in place in the common spaces and we are (at least for now) able to see each other’s smiling faces; however, as we all know, COVID-19 and its variants are with us for the foreseeable future. It is important that we remain vigilant with regard to the protocols with which we are all familiar (e.g., hand washing, monitoring of symptoms, wearing a mask when appropriate, remaining watchful of CDC guidelines, etc.). Under the leadership of Kim Robare, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) continues to meet to discuss best practices for our community. Due to some recent recommendations by local and state officials, as well as evolving guidance from the CDC, the following protocols are in effect: VACCINATION SUBMISSION We are asking all community members (faculty, staff, and students) to share proof of vaccination by email to covidvaccine@lec.edu. This information will be used for data collection only to decide future safety protocols on campus. Please note the information is only checked by one employee and remains confidential. Those who do not wish to share the information will be marked as an unvaccinated individual. Those looking to obtain a vaccination can email covidvaccine@lec.edu for a list of available places. Lake Erie College is also hosting a vaccination clinic on August 25 from 10am-3pm with the second dose available on or around September 15. Please look for more information regarding vaccination opportunities in the near future. Those who submit proof of vaccination will be entered into a raffle to win various prizes. Prizes include Storm Dollars, LEC apparel, and even your own designated parking space! Vaccination is defined as more than 2 weeks since your second does (Moderna/Pfizer) or your single dose of Johnson and Johnson. Proof must be submitted by September 1, 2021 to be eligible. MASK MANDATE We are instituting a mask mandate for indoor spaces beginning Monday, August 9, 2021. All community members (vaccinated or otherwise) are required to wear masks in any indoor space. Updates will be given the week of August 30 after vaccination records have been collected. FUTURE PLANNING Once the information is collected and we have data to assist in further decision making, we will continue to look at mask mandates, testing requirements for those unvaccinated, quarantine requirements and other suggested guidelines by medical professionals. We understand the importance of information sharing and will get completed policies and decisions out to the community regularly and as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on your email for up to date information. For questions, email Kim Robare (krobare@lec.edu).
