Dan Abramczyk, Class of 2016, Biology (Environmental Science)
For senior Dan Abramczyk, there's nothing better than the great outdoors. The Willowick native is pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a concentration in environmental science, building off of the associate's degree in eco-tourism and adventure travel that he previously earned from Hocking College.
Dan chose to continue his education at LEC because of the College's high quality science programs and the personalized environment on campus. "The student-centered and individualized atmosphere in my lectures and labs has been amazing," he said. "The faculty members from whom I have had the pleasure of learning have been such a knowledgeable, professional and caring group of people."
At LEC, Dan serves as the president of the Outdoor Adventure & Conservation Club and is also a member of the student organization Students Making a Difference. His favorite experiences, however, have involved various field trips in class. "We often get to go off campus to conduct fieldwork in subjects such as botany, environmental management and field biology," he said. "Everybody loves a field trip!"
Dan recently completed an internship with an environmental consulting agency, the field in which he hopes to build his career. In the next five years he plans to be working as a surveyor and field biologist for an environmental consulting firm, ideally spending the field season traveling and working outside.
"I traveled an immense amount for my associate's degree, and also travelled state to state constantly during my internship," he said. "Travel is a large part of the career I hope to attain. Not knowing exactly where you'll end up is part of the fun of working in environmental biology!"
Dan encourages prospective students of LEC to work diligently toward their goals, noting that the College offers an ideal environment for individual growth. "The friendly atmosphere on campus and the long list of student organizations will help ensure that your time here is well spent, no matter your academic or extracurricular interests," he said.
