David Thorne

David Thorne, Class of 2016, Spanish/Italian Studies

Hailing from Mentor, Ohio, David Thorne didn't have to look far to find a quality education. From the second he stepped on the Lake Erie College campus, he was hooked.

"I saw the beauty of our campus and fell in love," he said. "I was drawn to the small classroom settings and the close teacher-student relationships that LEC has to offer. I don't think I could have felt more at home anywhere else."

Now in his senior year, David is pursuing a double major in Spanish and Italian studies. Related to his coursework, one of his favorite things about Lake Erie College is the cultural diversity of the student body. "Diversity and different cultures are very important to me, so it’s great to be a part of the LEC community," he said. "There is always an opportunity to learn from one another."

The "family" feel of campus is David's favorite thing about LEC. "The students and faculty here are very friendly and community oriented," he said. "I have close relationships not just with students and teachers but with staff members as well."

Outside of class, David is involved in the Italian club "Il Convivio" and is a student ambassador for the College. He is also a member of Kappa Sigma, the College's only fraternity.

While he's enjoying every minute of his college experience, in five years David sees himself following his dreams and becoming an interpreter, interviewer and interrogator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

When asked to give advice to prospective students of the College, David urges students to commit themselves to LEC. "If you want to feel at home, if you want a good education, and if you want to better prepare yourself for your future endeavors, then LEC is where you need to be!"
