Director of Public Relations and Marketing

REPORTS TO: AVP/VP INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of Director of Public Relations and Marketing. The director of public relations and marketing oversees the College’s public relations, marketing, and communication services. The person in this full-time administrative position will be responsible for the development and implementation of activities and programs that build goodwill for Lake Erie College, enhance its image and reputation, and strengthen internal and external communications to the College’s stakeholders. The director leads all activities related to marketing plans, including, but not limited to, advertising, market research, promotions, special events, and electronic and print publications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements all marketing plans and branding efforts for the College:

  • Works in tandem with the Office of Admission and the academic division to develop marketing strategies targeting prospective students.

  • Leads the development of targeted communications campaigns and marketing programs for various facets of the College and the College as a whole.

  • Directs and implements College communication services:

  • Oversees the writing of press releases and news announcements for the College and handles media relations.

  • Oversees the development of the LEC magazine.

  • Copy-edits all major internal and external content for College publications.

  • Creates content for and assists with publishing all marketing publications and collateral materials for external use by the College.

  • Manages all social media outlets directly related to the institution.

  • Serves as College spokesperson as needed.

  • Oversees the College’s e-newsletters.

  • Maintains a comprehensive media relations program resulting in an enhancing the College’s reputation among key stakeholders.

  • Directs the promotion of faculty/staff as experts/speakers for the media.

  • Manages departmental budget and coordinates purchasing of all external ad buys and expenses.

  • Directs and oversees matters related to the College’s website, digital media, creative and social media initiatives.

  • Oversees content for the website and assists with web development, as needed.

  • Directs proactive, comprehensive ongoing marketing programs.

  • Coordinates response for certain requests for College information, as appropriate.

  • Oversees all employees within the department of public relations and marketing.

  • Other duties as assigned by the AVP/VP Institutional Advancement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field with at least 5 years of experience working within an in-house marketing department on a director level.

  • Experience with search engine optimization.

  • Superior writing, editing, presentation and organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a deadline-sensitive environment.

  • Experience supervising a marketing, communications, and public relations team to reach department goals and achieve positive results.

  • Experience in collaborating with other departments to strategize, create and execute marketing campaigns or recruitment plans and ability to receive/react to feedback professionally.

  • Experience in higher education marketing/communications/public relations.

  • Expertise in Adobe CC (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).

  • HTML/CSS knowledge.

  • Experience with email applications like Mailchimp or other CRM automated systems.

  • Experience as a graphic or visual designer.
